After lotses of research I had settled on the Tannoy reveal
actives as the best bet... now I find they've been
discontinued.

Dang.

Anyone else know of something comparable? What I really want
is Dynaudio BM6As but I'd have to sell some organs to get
them.

Get them second hand. I can only recommend them after 2
years of use. Whatever you get, make sure they're active.

i've got alesis m1 actives and they're brilliant. great
response, nice and loud and they give a balanced mix. my
new ep was the first thing i mixed on it, and the difference
is totally clear.

I was thinking about that... I saw some on eBay.

The guy at the music store told me he was going to see the
new models at NAMM soon, bu that they wouldn't be available
for 3 months. Will they be worse or better? Do I buy now
from the limited stock of Reveals?! Oh teh gamble of it
all!!!

Plaster - yeah, I've never heard a bad review of the
Dynaudios.

dtnl - I'm going to be checking those out at the shop...

i disagree,i found that the tannoy's are really "dead"
sounding, and i don't mean that in a good no colorization
kind of way, i mean they don't actually give you an accurate
representation of what your doing. This is bad as it means
you may over compensate espescially in the high-mids. I was
recently looking at them and this turned me off quick smart.
I ended up buying some Fostex Pm-1's and highly recommend
them, i had around $2000(aus) to spend on monitors and found
these to be far superior at just $1000. That being said, you
may like the Tannoy's just remember to listen to as many
monitors as possible and consider the shape/size of the room
you'll be using them in.
