What do you pay extra for, when you buy the Powerbook?

You're paying more money for less computer. It's a stupidity
tax, like playing the lottery.

Do you mean Apple's in general or the ib/Powerb? I'm so
tired of my miserable HP laptop, and I'm thinking about
doing "The Switch"

if your comparing the 12" the ibook wins i think.

with the powerbook you pay something like 50% extra for less
than 10% extra processer power and a graphics card that is
more or less equivalent but can do 'core imaging'
(introduced in next os update or something) which isn't
important for most people, and a silvery 'cool' look or
whatever. the powerbook's battery last shorter that the
ibooks.
i got a 1ghz ibook over the current powerbook, and now
they're faster and cheaper again there's very little reason
to choose the powerbook unless your spending big moneys on
the 12/17" ones.

whee etc , ibooks are awesome.

it pretty much depends on what you want to do with it.

supposedly, ibooks are better for making of the musics,
making of the animations, that kind of stuff.

on the other hand, if you want to play games, you're in a
less favourable position with an ibook.

and it does cost a shitload of money, so personally I would
only go that route if I would make use of the thing
professionally.

iBook are cool, indeed.
That's what i use... But it lacks in room.

I like the white iBook-look better. But it has a strange
plastic feeling

room as in hard drive or screen size?
i got mine 60gb BTO, but now you can get then with 80 which
is the same as the powerbook's maximum. GREAT...
but yeah, in terms of screen size i suppose it really does
depend on what you're used to using.

OK, in terms of product finish I would go for the PowerBook
even though the iBook is very good. My Ex had an iBook adn
the detailing just wasn;t as smooth. Tech specs speak for
themselves though.

Have you guys always used Macs? Or was there a special
"happening" that made you switch?

i always get the feeling that the ibook is sorta toyish.
whereas i don't get that feeling so much with the
powerbook.

but, i am probably just a victim of apple's marketing.

well if you were getting one now the ibook is amazing value
and is almost as fast as the powerbook, also they now have
built in wireless internet.

My current PC hasn't crashed in 2 years of ownership. I
suppose it is all down to simply knowing how to use stuff
properly.

i've got my xp and win2k machines running as solid as
rocks.

they maybe crash once every 6 months if even that much. and
i push them pretty hard.

i think windows has gotten much better since the win95/98
days... if you don't count winME.

the current powerbook is drastically underpowered, pointless
upgrade from i books, but i'm going to wait it out for the
new model which is either going to be g5 or a very fast dual
g4 model

yeah, my pc was windows 95, still, 4 years and i haven't had
a mac crash *touch wood*. The operating system on Mac is
pretty far ahead of windows, expecially with the Tiger
update early next year.

Have they made any announcements as to when they will unveil
their new powerbooks? Sometime around this summer would be
excellent for me.

Apple tend not to make announcements, often the first time
you'll hear about a new product is when it's on the shelves.

sounds realistic though, they usually do what hardware
updates they can whenever they release a new OS.
