too many to choose from!

will a current dvd player be able to play HD-DVD's when they
are released?

I don't think so. I think you'll need a HD-DVD player.
Thankfullly HD-DVD is backwards compatible though so your
old DVD collection will work on it. Fuck blu-ray.

I have the "Dead Ringers" one out of that OOP-list. I got it
for something like 10 euro's.

my favourite might have to be "videodrome" - great transfer,
nice extra's and just how that box looks..

Bremzen has the "Brazil" box, which contains 3 dvd's. nice
package, but the quality of the dvd's themselves seemed to
me to be a bit.. off.

the one I still desperately want to get one of these days:

my favourite is the Silence... it's part of the Bergman
trilogy...

Fear and Loathing is a great one too.

L'Avventura, Contempt, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Wild
Strawberries. The list goes on and on-- lots of great
stuff! They're going to be putting out L'Eclisse one of
these days :)

I want Walkabout, Silence of the lambs, Fear and Loathing
Las Vegas, Robocop and... The Rock

Fear and Loathing is such a duff film. Terry Gilliam ran
out of things to say about 40 minutes through. :(

The most available and most of the time grossly over priced
criterion DVD:

that's the mainstream fake cover to get the attention of the
norms.

I find it funny that that DVD pushes 30 bucks at tower
records.

Honestly, not all criterion is good, but a lot of it is. Its
not really worth collecting them for the sake of criterion,
but if you have a film you really like, and you want to
watch the special features, then its worthwhile getting. If
you don't watch the special features, though, then its not
really worthwhile, cause thats pretty much all criterion
adds.

it really depends on what you're talking about... if we're
talking about the Criterion edition of the Rock, well then
yes i agree, unless you are special feature obsessed than
you might as well go for a cheaper version... that said,
there are plenty of foreign DVDs in the collection that have
more than just special features to their credit... problems
to do with print quality, sound quality, quality of
translation, presence of as much of the original film as
possible... these are the sort of problems that criterion
tackles head on and i don't know of any other company out
there that can compare... it's really shitty because a lot
of really important films will be dust-heaps if no one else
starts to pick up the slack and help criterion put out the
massive number of important films that remain all but
unavailable (or in incredibly shitty condition)...

Mmmm, so many good films. Admittedly there's some shite in
there too. Armageddon?

haha, that crap really stands out doesn't it? and it's only
4 down from amarcord on that list, which is one of my all
time 3 favourite films :)

It's strange to say the least. Still, I'd love the whole
collection anyway. Stuff like that wouldn't get opened
though.

what's the criteria for making it into the criterion
collection?

is there a board that votes on the admission of films?
