grrrr....i had just finished a really good segment of a
song im working on...and i got up to throw some laundry in
the dryer and get more root beer..when i got back..moved the
mouse and as the screen saver went away, one of those
goddamn "illegal operation" messages popped up...of course i
hadnt saved the part i had just finished...so i have to go
back and figure out how i did it all over again which is
close to impossible...
luckily i had the rest of the track saved...i've lost whole
songs before to those infamous illegal operations...so i was
trying to be more careful...but i guess you can never be too
careful..

the moral of this story? save what your doing after you do
ANYTHING!

sorry...i just had to vent >.<

I understand. I work with a shitty Celeron in work on GIS
mapping.

Imagine coming back from lunch to discover your Aphex NME
screen saver has totally fucked over 1025 seperate points of
data on a map of your local city.

And you didn't save cause you were desperate to go to the
pub.

My life, every week!!!!

Use Windows 2000. IMHO it's the best Windows operating
system.

Has anyone else had that thing where a thing is active down
in the taskbar, and it just says "| - Microsoft Explorer"
and it's a real bitch to get rid of? I'm getting that loads
on certain websites recently

When you click on it, it just has a box with 'OK' in it and
doesn't go! Fuck!

An illegal operation is when an 'out of the blue' situation
arises that Windows doesn't expect! It's not illegal as in
the police are gonna turn up - just a bitch when it happens,
'cos usually you loose the work your doing!

Jarworski - you could try 'CTRL ALT DEL' and then doing an
'End Task' on the offending taskbar item - however if you
have several Internet Explorer windows open - my experience
is that you tend to loose them all, not just the one you
want to get rid of!

It don't work man, I do CTRL ALT etc and it takes like, a
minute to register the fact I don't want this fucking thing
open, by then 3 more of the cunts have popped up!!!!

And you're right, it wipes loads of stuff out - like
Morpheus, when I'm like 90% through a download of a 800mb
file!

on my old computer IE used to crash all the time
now my new one (athlon xp 1.4 ghz) almost never crashes..
but im still running win98
windows XP is supposed to be much more stable.. i will have
to upgrade some time

but i have a love hate relationship w/ computers now:
they're cool.. but when they screw up they can be SOOOOOO
frustratingly stupid!

Get Windows XP it is better - it can deal with these
'application collapses' better! I haven't had any problems
like what you've described since upgrading, Jarworski!
(...go for the Pro version though!!)

yeah, jarworski...you should invest in a keyboard cover...to
protect it from all the harmful bodily fluids...either that
or some kleenex and some better aim...
