Argh. Nightmare.

There's some disk recovery firms around, maybe try one of
them?

Yeah, a couple hundred dollars are the estimates I have
heard. if you had a crapton of music on there it might be
worth it though

i don't think i've lost everything -

story is that if i mount it i can get into most of the music
but about 15 artists (pearl jam being the biggest loss :/)
are unreadable. Currently it's doing a surface scan (been at
it for 15 hours now, i don't expect it to take shorter than
a week) which is a bitch cause i've just got off college and
now the server's out of action. might force me to do some
study.

main thing is finishing this scan and in the meantime
finding a 500gb drive or something and just copying
everything onto that (including the 2 other 80gb drives) and
starting anew. then buy another 500gb one and mirror the
first in a RAID array..

I'd get it seen to by a data loss specialist/firm but i
don't have the money and anyways i don't think such services
are in abundance here..
