I'm imagining it like "myrtjiva oschjem," but the
pronounciation of that will probably range from language to
language too.. I wish I knew that pronounciation-stuff...

close..i know english speaking people that speak some

well, to me it's more like polish, which is the closest I've
been to either of the countries... maybe I should figure out
how to do those pronounciation-letters.. and what they mean,
since regular letters are pronounced differently from
language to language...

the pronounciation of what I wrote will be pronounced
differently in just about every language and dialect
available...

yeah, polish and russian pronounciation is quite similar i'd
say...i can hardly understand a word of what they say, but i
can understand quite some of it in written. there are so
many dialects here in slovenia alone (and it's only 2 mio
people) it's impossible to understand it all :)

hmm...

about the same as here in norway.. got swedes and danish
people, norwegians get it all, swedes don't get shit, and
danish people don't even understand each other... hahahah!

hang on.. there's a skit by some norwegian comedians that
has something about this... I'll see if I can find it
somehow...

ok.. I found it, but it's complicated...

go here, click "klikk her for å åpne nett-tv" if
the new window doesn't open on it's own...

when it opens, scroll down the list until you see a green
flower where it says "uti vår hage," then click the +
besides "Episode 1: Ridderresier", and click the "Danske
Språkproblemer." they speak english, so it's easy to get...
the thing will test your connection first and then ask for a
password.. use mine.

According to my 1965 edition "Lærebok i Gammalnorsk", the
entry reads:
heimr, m heim, verda.

I don't think it accounts for any development in the
Icelandic language since Snorre and his fellow bards,
though.

Heimur and heimr is basically the same thing since the
language hasn't changed that much. it sounds almost the same
really since the "u" sound in icelandic isn't like the
norwegian or danish "u" for instance. if you know phonetics
or what ever it's called, it is written Y.

so to answer your question the word for home is "heima" but
if you say "i'm going home" you have to cut the a of the
word so "ég fer heim=i go home".

I wish the danish didn't colonize us and changed our old

it's all because of the damn bible man :). you people in
norway had to use that silly danish version of the bible for
a long time and that changed the language, or that's what i
learned in icelandic classes. icelandic was the 7. or 17.
translated language of the bible so that helped saving the
language. the isolation of course helped a lot.

i like norwegian more than danish. you're far more easier to
understand. it's closer to icelandic pronounciation than any
danish dialect i've heard.

i think i could manage in norway with out having learned any
norwegian at all, just by pronouncing danish words with a
bit of icelandic accent.

Stupid Bible...

Heh, the danish have a tendency to "swallow" their words.
It's like they have a potato in their mouth... Actually, I'm
from the part of Norway where p's usually sound like b's,
and people from other parts of the country say that we speak
danish. That sucks :(

hehe, icelandic is a bit harsh sometimes with many "h's" and
stuff but there are many that pronounce p's like b's, it's
very common actually, but never in the beginning of a
sentence though. instead of a "pp" in the middle of the word
there might be "Hb". so kleppur might sound something like
kleHbur.
