Religion is the biggest threat to the advancement of human
civilization. This century will be the one where logic and
humanity are conflict religion. Many will die.

no, that would never ever happen. it's completely, utterly
impossible. and even if were somehow possible, nothing
would ever be resolved - violence begets more violence in a
perpetual cycle.

I'm saying it will happen. And that it will be instigated by
religious institutions.

errh.. religion is not a threat to the human civilization..
it is a PART of the human civilization.. religion doesn't
inhibit progress, nor does it encourage it in any ways that
differ from the other parts of our society.

I would have to say instead of religion, it would be the
family. The family structure ruins everything. Also,
without it, there would be no religion.

i'm not sure that religious people have a monopoly on
irrational beliefs...

instead of criticizing some blanket generalization like
"religion," why not dispense with your presumptions and
assumptions and prejudices and consider one idea at a time?

i'm sure you've noticed that some religious people are
rational, and some are irrational. most are a mix of both,
just like everybody else...

People are dying
Children are crying
Politicians are lying too.

Cancer is killing
Texaco's spilling
The whole world's gone to hell
But how are you?

I'm super
Thanks for asking
All things considered
I couldn't be better I must say

I'm feeling super
No, nothing bugs me
Everything is super when you're
Don't you think I look cute in this hat

I'm so sorry
Mr. Cripple
But I just can't feel too bad for you right now.
Because I'm feeling
So insanely super
That even the fact that you can't walk
Can't bring me down

Background singers:

Thanks for asking

No, nothing bugs me
Everything is super when you're
Don't you think I look cute in this hat
These little pants, this matching tie
That I got at Vogue

I'm super

Background singers:
In the barracks and the trenches as well

Big Gay Al:
Stick 'em up.

Background singers:

Religion has no answers, no proof. And when asked for proof
always falls back on "Faith, faith, faith!".

And here's my biggest problem with religion, more
specifically Christianity. It motivates you to be good by
promising rewards, instead of just being good for the sake
of being good.

It's fishbait, you're the fish. I don't need to be promised
eternal paradise to be a good person. I don't need to be
told I'm going to burn in hell not to be a bad person.

I mean the reasoning is just shit.

You complatint about 'faith' or blind credulity isn't
exclusive to religion. That's a disease shared by both
religious and atheist people.

You're complaint aginst Christainaity should be directed
toward the churches and the clergy. Read the gospels for
youself and then see if your argument hold up.

No it wont be directed to them, because I'm having a
conversation about this here .

And the answers religion do provide are rather nasty.

Seeing as you have read the bible, or if anyone else has,
please quote the part where it says what to do to a
homosexual if he/she has had intercourse with the same sex.

errh... you DO know that science doensn't have proof
either, right? you won't get definate proof from a
scientist... science is about DISPROVING theories.. if you
can't disprove something, it is more likely to be considered
true, but scientists are wrong about just about anything,
and will never be right...

you can't calculate randomness.

the best feature of science is that it is operated with the
understanding that there is no plateau to knowledge, every
single idea is open to reevaluation and refinement.

of course, ego, politics and rigid belief programming make
this ideal impossible, but what a fantastic ideal...

people who are of genuine faith, i believe, approach their
spirituality in the same way. they are willing to recognize
their faith as a model that must be constantly shaped and
refined. they do not rigidly adhere to beliefs and dogma.

imo, ultimately science and spirituality will merge into one
discipline.

both "science" and "religion" require more depth than we can
manage on xltronic...

So you think religion is a dangerous threat? Does that
include Buddhists who are a group of the most peaceful
people in existence who believe that the most important
thing is the happiness of others? I don't really agree that
these people could possibly cause a threat to, well anyone
really.
I agree that religious people often have no justification at
all for their beliefs and don't really have a clue what they
are talking about because those people only rely on their
unjustified "faith" and what they have been brought up to
believe in. There are a lot of counter arguments to the
existence of a greater being, but to be honest, all of them
can be argued against and there is an equal number of
arguments for this existence. There has never been one side
of the argument proven. If anything had actually been proven
infallably then there would be no disputes or arguments
about the subject. As it is impossible so far to prove
either way, it's important to keep an open mind and not get
agressive or angry about it. It's obviously pointless as
there is no infallable justification for either argument.
