I've been getting into Asian horror and suspense movies
over the last few months. The ones I've seen - Ringu, Jian
Gui (The Eye), Honogurai mizu no soko kara (Dark Water), and
Ju-On (The Grudge) are all pretty great. Is anyone else into
this genre? Any suggestions on similar films to watch?

I've been away for a while. Hello hello!

Sucide club (dont know if that would be horror) but good
none the less!

all of them yeah but they get kind of too similar after
awhile.. hair in water.. water.. water..

but yeah, better than any other horror ive seen

I'm definately into it!

You should see ringu2 and 0 too, even though they're not as
good, they still provide amusement.

Also: The uninvited.. can't remember it's real name, but
it's korean.. it's kind of slow, but still good... I'm still
looking for more new stuff, but you've seen the majority of
the better ones...

Ghost in the Shell 1 + 2 (anime)
Akira (anime)
Steamboy (anime.. the guy who made akira spent the last 10
years making this, and it shows.. not horror.. more
family-ish, but very good)
Wonderful Days (Korean anime)
Arahan (korean action/fantasy)

Audition's a bit of a given

Audition is more like a suspense with horror elements. but
it's a great movie.

Gemini is sort of a bizarre suspense/horror thing.
also a great movie.

Kaïro (Pulse) is my favorite. others include: Shiryo no
wana (Evil Dead Trap), Kyua (Cure), Gozu, Yibola bing du
(E-Bola Syndrome), Tetsuo The Iron Man, Ba Xian fan dian zhi
ren rou cha shao bao (The Untold Story).

Definitely check out the works of Kiyoshi Kurosawa. His
films tend to be methodical and exceptionally creepy. Pulse
has an end of the world, ghost kind of theme while Cure
revolves around hypnosis.

Yes, you HAVE TO watch A Tale of Two Sisters!! I've watched
loads of Asian horror but this film is by far the best i've
seen.

you would know A Tale of Two Sisters is realistic horror if
you had actually watched it

i take it you didn't like it then? :) oh well, fair
enough... personally I find it the best out of all these new
asian horror films, many of which are overrated.

Thanks all. This should keep me going for a while.

thecurbcreeper - NetFlix is good for this sort of stuff if
you already subscribe. Otherwise head for suprnova.org or
get the eMule p2p client.

dc++ also rocks for getting movies.. you can get just about
anything, but you have to have a share to start out with,
which sucks...

I just finished watching 'Happiness of the Katakuris' by
horror director Takeshi Miike.

this movie is bizzare. It is like 'Sound of Music' / 'Evil
Dead' / 'Motel Hell'

I laughed, I cried, I sang along during the karaoke scene.
No shit, there is a Karaoke scene where the audience is
asked to sing along (in japanese though).

it was great!

Good call!! Irriversible will fuck you up more than any
horror. I have never seen so many people go to a movie and
come out hating it, and being totally justified, or come out
loving it, and also being totally justified.

The rest of the movies I've seen are child's play compared
to "Audition."

I had to watch "Tonari no Totoro" afterward to purge my
brain of those images ...

Thanks! (I think)
