I just saw this, and I must say: up until now, I thought Fox networks actually had a few REPORTERS, but hell no! they've only got a bunch of morons having a neverending birthday-party, telling jokes about and discrediting people they don't like.. also, they seem to be taken SERIOUSLY a large amount of people over there! I especially disliked that O'reilly asshole.. he has nothing to do on television.. his ethics are non-existing at best, and I have to wonder: has he EVER had a discussion with someone, or does he only do moronic monologs? He was like a spoiled 5-year old who held his ears when people he disagreed with spoke, only he figured out that holding his ears doesn't work in "grown-up world," so he tells people to "shut up!" Also; how can a NEWS networks officials say stuff like "americans who don't support the war in iraq can SHUT UP!" Americans are living in a third-world country, and someone should DO something about it! |

Yeah O'Reilly is a supreme bumhole. I liked when he was interviewing the son of a guy who'd died on 9-11, but who disagreed with Bush's policies, adn O'Reilly's best comeback was "SHUUUUDUUUUPPP" pronounced just like that over and over. He says it just like a drunken fuckup out in the street at 4 a.m. |

yeah.. that interview with that guy.. that was an OUTRAGE! It made me want to punch O'reilly, and I credit the guy he interviewed for holding back! Especially when he used his DEAD FATHER and his mother AGAINST him! I bet they'd both be proud of their son for standing up to that asshole! I loved it when he kept talking when O'reilly interrupted, and that one time he made him wait his turn! That was the greatest moment in the entire documentary! How does O'reilly get away with it? Generally in television, interrupting makes you look bad, and telling people to shut up is NOT good debate-tech... Has anyone ever told him to not interrupt? I can imagine his reply as something like "why should I shut up? this is MY show!" |

the thing is, the fact that so-called news shows have turned into opinion soapboxes for extreme right-wingers like o'reilly and abrahms, and/or into cartoonish lost-kitten-story, no-facts news, is a reflection of the gotesque extent to which corporations manipulate society without most of them even realizing it. look no further than who has the vested interest - corporations own those channels and decide what is aired - the reporters are puppets more than willing to go along with the script or whatever they are handed by the federal government. it's all about control. |

I don't have Fox (luckily), but they showed all those other news-anchors joking about the democrat candidates and such.. bill o'reilly's version of being "fair and balanced" is that he has a moderate-liberal come on and a hard-line right-winger come on, and he lets the right-wing guy say whatever he wants as long as he wants to say it while o'reilly nods and says i agree-liberals are so crazy, etc. then he says, what do you think, liberal? "well, i think that--" NO! Shut up! that's crazy! i should have expected that coming from a liberal like you! |

pretty much. the news is constantly publishing stories about how french people are backwards and don't do anything right... that suggestion is made a lot. any time something goes wrong in france, it seems to be a big story here. and i can't remember seeing a time when ralph nader was referenced or on a "news" show where he wasn't laughed at or treated like he was insane by one of the "journalists". |

I don't know about the corporations, but the republicans sure benefit from people being in a paradoxal state where they feel.. safe AND scared at the same time.. they show "happy goldfish" news which are about "the worlds biggest cookie" (just saw Bruce Almighty too.. not very good, but it caricatured "goldfish" news at its worst), while scaring people with "terrorists." yeah.. he mostly used "liberal" like it was a disease! and the nodding! that's a common rhetorical trick.. it shows acceptance by another figure with authority (I noticed in that interview.. O'reilly was placed in the shot in a way that made him seem big and confident (air in the direction he's looking) while the guy he was interviewing was placed in the center more or less, making him seem smaller.. also O'reilly is - as host - allowed to look directly into the camera, making it seem like he's talking to the person watching, instilling them with confidence in him.. guests are often misconcieved as "rude" if they look directly into the camera...) |

Does anyone remember that SNL sketch where the news anchors were like, "there is something in your house, and you may be using it right now, that is deadly. It could kill you. Find out what it is, coming up this hour!" Fox News is just like that. It got really good when Mt. St Hellens was big news. But even though St. Hellens is still smoking and earthquaking, its old news, so these fucks won't report it! |

o'reilly's technique is that he asks his interviewee a totally loaded question, then cuts them off and doesn't let them clarify how an answer to the question is impossible, and then redicules them for not answering the question. that's how he destroyed mike moore. moore didn't even really try to point out the bias in the questions. red herring: any diversion intended to distract attention from the main issue. he's a master at that. |
