we're dealing with his PARABELS. and with the fact that all of his parables deal with PARADOX situtations and DEGRADATION of the protagonist.

oh.. then I can't help, I think... I've only read "the triology" (the castle, the process and america), and I guess those are not parabels... or are they?

I wonder if Kafka himself knew that these three novels (at least castle and process) he wrote are considered parabels.

did you read amerika? maybe you should add some post-modern, feminist and marxist theory in there for good measure. that should pump up the grade even higher.

oh..
I thought a parabel was a short story with morals or something.. as these three are quite long.. wellwell.. I should probably just update my english! hehe...
well.. then I guess your task isn't too hard... if you've read the books, you should be more than able to discuss it... just use the castle, for instance, where K is called to do a job that doesn't exist, and that he's being dragged further and further down into the dirt with every advance he makes towards the castle.

and i think the correct spelling is 'parable' if you want to write it in your test and don't want grades docked for spelling errors.
yeah, if i recall, the castle had some guy go to some castle and everyone was being mean to him and the moral i got from the story was 'don't trust people in castles b/c they can screw you over - just like the system can screw you over. f* the man.'
in amerika, karl rossmann moves to america and thinks it's a wonderful, dreamland but it becomes some crazy drug-like adventure. so the moral of this story was 'america is full of screwed up people.'
in metamorphosis, the protagonist changes into a bug, and his family sits in horror at him and he feels this hatred toward them for being such unsupportive jerks. then if i recall correctly, he dies and the family move out of the house. so the moral of this story was 'dont get a disease b/c noone will want you deal with you unless you are part of a country w/ a good health care system.'
note: not to be taken too seriously, but has some cynical truth to it all.

yeah, i won't be too hard since all of his parabels are based upon the same pattern. the protagonist representing mankind is trapped in a paradox situation, tries to get out of it and reach an aim (that usually has to do with his natural desires), but the more he struggles to get out of his situation the worse it gets (degradation).
i was just thinking ..maybe if i post here i'll get some "rare" information.
