Well this entire game only has maybe 3 major tunes.. but
damn is that first one good. How come nobody here makes
tunes like that? )I sure as hell can't.(
dee da la dee
da da da doodle da dee dooo!
dee da la dee
da da da doole da dee dooo!
da dee da da doo!
da da da doo da da doo!
da da da doo da da doo! da da doooo! *bum bum*

Then it goes right into a new fresh arrangement flawlessly,
plus is polophony with everything matching fantastically.
The bassish notes are just as fun to listen to seperately
but fit perfectly with the other melody to boot, not to
mention the other elements going on. Even orange dust, one
of the best melody makers here, doesn't make anything this..
well simple yet really packed with thought like a mini
clockwork. It's probably a loop less than a minute but so
good along with a bunch of other vintage videogame music.

that game is superb. i love how you hear only the bassline
when you pause the game.

i remember there is this trick to change the music to this
other tune when you get a star when you're in the dark world
(where you get the mushroom) and go back through the door
just before the star music ends or sumfin.

lol. i was trying to discern that for myself... guess
something like that would take that long to compile...
considering the time, points and lives are constant.

here's a really badly formated guide for doing it.
it's an old one where i got it just under 16 minutes. since
then i've made some improvements but never update it.

I probably could too if using the warps (use a potion to
enter the pipe at the end of world 1-2 or so, and also the
whale place). When I was young I memorized the way to draw
all the characters, like wart, in the manual. I never knew
about that change-the-music-with-a-star trick. Using the
princess is like putting the game on the easiest difficulty,
while probably toad is the hardest but still pretty easy.
Either they intended it this way or figured that her
inability to fly or jump very high was balanced by her (..or
his) ability to pick vegetables quickly pff. I never really
payed much attention until recently but mario 3 only has 2
major tunes for normal levels too. (aside from airship music
(awesome!), simple toad house music and simple music on each
level map (and probably mini castle music).) I think a new
tune could have really added a fresh atmosphere to later
levels.

I always found luigi to be tougher because of his awkward
jumping

I've gotten used to it so it's just a crippled form of
flying. You can just run and hop across most levels on top
of everybody's head. Some parts, like fighting the crab are
hardest with him since he takes longest to land on top of
the rock to pick it up.

I was playing mario 2 again the other day actually and I was
really enjoying this too. I'm sure it's Koji Kondo who
composed all the mario music, it's all so fantastic, some of
the mario 3 world theme tunes are great as well.

Yeah, I think the 2nd level of mario 3 is awesome (same tune
used again and again throughout the game.) This reminds me
of some of the best videogame music I've heard: toejam and
earl 1 for genesis. That stuff is wicked. I bet orange dust
would like it.

I don't listen to video game music when I'm not playing the
games, but if I had the Boy and his Blob mp3s, I'd make an
exception. :)
