it would be great if any of you superb folks could throw me a frikken bone and inspire me in a choice of sound system!
ummmm, in the new year i will have saved about a thousand pounds or so and im wanting a PA that i can hook my turntables up to and check my computer music through........
i want a system thats got a nice rounded fat full sound with a full mid range and crisp high end (suited towards reggae jungle sounds)
it must also be portable as id like to move it in the summer from the living room to out in the garden!!!!
i dont know if i should go for an amp and seperate speakers or an active monitor set up?
any inspiration would be gladly recieved!
like brand names and industry standard set ups!
cheers folks

Choosing a suitable sound system is quite a difficult decision.
- You need to take into account the acoustic environment they are going into. Positioning, surface reflections, bass traps etc.
- How loud you are going to be able to drive the system. Its no good getting a loud system that you can't turn up above 10% volume because of complaints. Running a system over 50% tends to produce a more accurate sound.
- Go out and test the systems, So many people spend lots of money on systems and don't even listen to them first. I doubt Haiti has many studio retailers but if you can get to london try Turnkey...There are also some great systems here
- Research different systems on the net, see what other people think of them, sites like futureproducers normally have review lurking around.
Hope this helps :)

*Running a system between 50% & 80% tends to produce a more accurate sound. This also depends on whether it is digital or valve amped.

S'true, you're a lot better off running a 3K PA at 75%, rather than a 10K one at 20%. "Loud" systems sound a bit gash quiet.
In addition to what Kado said about valve amping, if you want mid and high end range, you'd probably be better off without valves (expensive and not v. portable) or transistors and spend the cash saved on a better digital one.

Hey Ceri :) How's it goin? Good shout on the valves, uber expensive normally + Unpredictable/unreliable.
all this aside, I once saw a pic of Luke Viberts studio in future music, he was running everything into a tiny set of pc speakers. Probably not the most accurate or expensive monitoring system but he gets good results!

I'm well and happy. Work is going okay, but I don't like being away from Wales, despite where I am now being a really nice area. I may move back if I can find a good job there.
Music is going well, lots of new tracks and they're a lot better than my older stuff IMO.
How're things with you?
