i don't remember seeing him being mentioned here...which is
a surprise really..i only found out about him yesterday, and
im listening to 'world of arthur russell' atm, it's great
stuff, quite unique music, so diversed album it makes my
head spin...from straight beats, to jazz improvization, to
80's synth music, ...plenty of cool vocals. im definitely
going to check him out properly!

the video work was done by Phill Niblock, who has been
working in minimal drone compositions for decades... i kind
of wonder what his film work would look like... i almost
bought it for my girlfriend for our anniversary...

Finally someone that has heard of Arthur Russell! I've made
several threads on Russell over the years, but no response
ever! World of Echo is the single most important album of my
life. It changed my view of music completely. I actually
have the original 1986 Rough Trade vinyl. I bought it in
1993 in a vinyl dumping sale for a quid! The only reason I
bought it was the fact that it was released on Rough Trade.
Imagine how I was blown away when I put that record on for
the first time! And now, finally, its out there on cd, with
a dvd to go with it: AWESOME! World of echo is totally
original music, you'll hear nothing like it anywhere else..
Its a record to totally immerse oneself in.

omg, thanks for that!! :)

i was begining to think there's something wrong with me and
deadeight, since we're apperantly the only one that care
about this hehe. i can't possibly imagine how it must have
felt in 1993, coz im totally blown away now in 2004 - after
all the albums i've heard!!
it's just as brilliant as music gets!!

Indeed, it is! It's a shame he died in 1992 of aids, but its
great that more people today are able to get to know his
music through these reissues. I was very upset at first to
know that the limited edition of world of echo would be so
limited, so I sent Audika a mail:

We made 3000 for the world with the DVD, plus special
packaging. Rough Trade
only brought in 300 for the UK.

You can buy it via: www.forcedexposure.com

The single CD will have the bonus tracks, but no DVD.

Best,

Steve

it might be that song I really liked in "coffee and

badly. :)

had a listen - it isn't! I'll have to get the whole of the
soundtrack now!

hm. when I look around to order "world of echo" I also see a
2-disc version from 1990 that supposedly includes a dvd.

a dvd-edition from 1990?

that must be a mistake im almost sure. the dvd edition
(which i got btw :) was released by the end of the last
year. treehouse was the first one that got me really
intrigued but i've heard iit on his other album first and
all the other songs were quite different, but 'world of
echo' pretty much consits of tunes all made onyl by cello,
vocals and some percussion.

hmm, there are two videos of him playing cello. one consits
of the songs from 'world of echo' and the other one some of
his other songs. it' wasn't filmed in an usual way though.
camera really closes up on him - parts of his face, fingers,
cello. im not sorry i got this special edition one bit
because i love the album so much, and i don't think there's
much of a difference i the price. so i guess if you're going
to like the rest of the album the dvd is worth getting, i
can always burn it and send it to you though.

3. Answers Me
4. Being It
5. Place
6. She's The Star/I Take This Time
7. Treehouse
8. See Through
9. Hiding Your Present From You
10. Wax The Van
11. All Boy All Girl
12. Lucky Cloud
13. Tower Of Menaing
14. Let's Go Swimming
15. Name Of The Next Song
16. Happy Ending
17. Canvas Home

Yeah, great album. I asked a music store guy whose taste I
respect what he's heard lately that's awesome and he
recommended World of Echo. I listened to the first half
minute of the first track and knew it was going to be one of
the best things ever.

I had my cd player so I was walking downtown with the
flaming orange sunset reflecting off the buildings with this
crazy brilliant beauty bouncing around in my head.
