I'm still waiting for someone to give me a recording of the
sound of shit so I can actually compare.

P.S. You like Doll Doll Doll.

Snares has some great sounding music. From what I hear he
isn't dabbling in serialism, it's a very obvious sounding
technique, unless he just created his own loose rules. It
wouldn't surprise me if he has a strong knowledge of music
theory, just because you know it doesn't mean you always
apply it.
Squarepusher is hardly bebop sounding, he takes 7th chords
and plonks them into his compositions, big deal. He is a
good bass player I think, I'm sure he didn't aim to sound
like a traditional jazz bassist, although I think he'd be
able to hold it up if he ever wanted to go in that
direction. They're both good, the end.

winter in the belly of a snake and huge chrome cylinder box
unfolding have stunning melodies

to elaborate, to me they have a textural and timbral effect
which is much more emotionally striking then a lot of
"tunes."

they may not be as easily remembered, but they have a
greater power to my ears and feelings together than most idm
melodies.

in fact, snares melodies are very good compared to most of
the ususal videogame idm-ish melodies

I disagree, although i haven't heard HCCBU, I've heard
winter plenty of times, and a lot of the melodies on it were
far from stunning. Examples:

Dad - 1 main melody, 2nd 'solo/counter' melody comes in the
last half. The main melody is very repetitve although
interesting as its kinda off kilter/plinky, the 2nd one is
really just improv over the first one, doesnt really do
anything for me.

Suffocate is one of my favorites off the album - but again
its quite repetitive melody wise.

fraujager - is okay, but rythms of the melodies are kinda
childish, and only 2 chords for the last half of the album
with more repetition by a lead violin.

sink snow angel, sounds like he played all of the melodies
with 1 finger and occasionally using his left hand for its
other index finger

Gottrahmen - has the best imo, followed by cashew

To me, overall he'll have like a few great tracks per album,
and the rest is rubbish. Songs about my cats had the best
melodies imo.

I disagree again, Snares is one of the farthest away from
having videogamish melodies...

Cort - i believe the reason that they stick with you so much
is because they are very simple and catchy. Which isn't
surprising next to his insane drum programming, something
has to counterbalance it.

im sorry, but you appeared to have misread both of our
posts.

i said that they DO NOT stick with me as much as simpler
stuff.

melodies of em all.

i don't really like vsnares at all. and squarepusher is
alright, despite being a douche bag, and making one of the
most annyoying albums ever (ultravisitor).

i say neither.

i go with neither, as well. although i probably like snares
a bit more than squarepusher. i definitely would rather
listen to the snares releases i have (which don't include
anything past find candice) than squarepusher's stuff in
general. though squarepusher is probably a better musician,
i don't really care about that at all.

sorry guys, i could have sworn i read your posts correctly,
but i was sober then, so lets try this again:

corty: I'm so stoned

nacmat: I dont like vsnares melodies.

:D

hahah - i just got stoned as well

i must add though, i can listen to squarepusher at any time
and enjoy it - but i need to be in the right mood for a lot
of vsnares stuff, but in that mood i enjoy it to a much
higher level than usual.

Squarepusher laid the foundation and then VSnares built the
castle. VSnares vs. anyone would end up with a vote for
VSnares right now. He's the ONLY reason I still listen to
electronically produced music.
