Has anyone hitchhiked in the UK at all? How easy is it? I might be considering Coventry to Holyhead (the ferry port in north wales) but it seems like a fuggin long way, its probably 3-4 hours, mostly along the A5. What say ye men?

I used to hitch all the time in Ireland. In the rural area I lived it was the principle means of getting around for most people ;)
I wouldn't hitch in the UK though.

haha hitchhiking, a very 70's notion which was replaced in the late 1990's with the altogether more fashionable "car jacking"

I wouldn't hitch in the uk either. The only people likely to stop would be bum-sex-kill-men or people who want to tell you all about jesus.

I wasn't so keen either but the charity folks seem quite comfortable about the whole thing and I can get a weekend in Dublin for 50 squids if I manage plus all the money for Chah Ruh Deeh which means I can go back to only thinking of myself for another year. I have a sort of tramp like appearance so I don't think people would mug me or fuck my anus unrequested.

can't see to much of a problem, plenty of lorries using that trunk road delivering crappy made minature leprechauns from london to ireland for all the stupid tourists to buy. you'll probably get a lift straight to the port.

Just got back. As it happens hitchhiking is quite easy if you have a great big sign that says CHARITY on it, even if you are styled as a hobo. In fact I think hitching home today was more fun than the actual time in Dublin, some crazy folks drove me all the way home and bought me cake as well.
