I want to make a fuckload of money

offline fungusman from Monster Island on 2004-11-22 15:39 [#01402859]

I'm getting the 21year old blues of WHAT AM I GOING TO DO
WITH MY LIFE. I make tracks and thats all I want to do, but
until something comes from it Im going to need to support my
electronic music ass.

So I was thinking Id goto school but I dont want to put a
bunch of fucking effort into something that wont get me a
good job. Everyone tells me TAKE SOMETHING YOU LIKE but
thats a bunch of bull fuck man. All the stuff I like is self
tought, thats half the fun right?

Like say if I took sound engineering , like what the fuck,
no one gets jobs after they take those courses man. Id like
to get into music production for commercials and junk, but
how the hell would I start? I dont know where to go for that
stuff. I can just walk up to nissan and say BUY MY SONG FOR
YOUR COMMERCIAL right?

Anyway Im kind of lost, all I know is that within the next 5
years I would like get all the dumb bullshit out of the way
and be set for life.

Any thoughts or suggestions besides sell your body or kill
yourself? Any serious posts would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!

in 10 years i doubt you'll still want the money. in 10 years
you'll be sorry if you're not going to do something you
like...at least that is my experience..

going to school is a good idea
I think the problem with wanting to make a fuckload of
money, is that most of your time will be spent trying to
make the money, rather than using the equipment you will
presumably spend it on

Set yourself up a nice pyramid scheme. That's where the
money is.

I sometimes think along the same lines.

"take something you like" is probably near the worst answer
anyone could give. It solves nothing. There is no insight or
depth to that answer.

I do believe that perhaps pursuing those courses might help.
I know a guy who went to a media institute and hes got some
sort of sound production job. Not that i can remember.

I hate this area of life because i am quite not sure of what
i want to do either. Its mildly stressful

that is because it's a simple fact.

I really want to do a backflip in my life. Maybe even more
than one! Ah, no-one knows, do they?

Yeah I think I should take some multi media garb thing, even
though I am pretty confident in my music and shit, people
only want a peice of paper man.

At least i would be a better first step I guess : )

Its like the only thing that makes a king is his crown.

you either have to be very talented or very lucky to make a
living with music
and even then, only 1% or so of the musically talented
people go anywhere with it
I am just pulling that figure out of my ass, but really,
having a "backup" is probably a good idea

people that prefer money over anything...it's hard to tell
when you're 20 what will you prefer later in life. i know i
fucked it all up.

i would like to have money, but it is not everything, in
fact i am losing no sweat over getting it or not, true, its
an important factor in my life, but it only goes so far.
there are many more important things, and i wouldnt care if
i wasnt sucessfull or didnt get rich in my life.

Well thats the thing like, I want to make music. I like to
make music, and Im sure if I get a job doing engineering or
something I would be like "WOW MY FUCKING JOB SUCKS, Im
going to go make tracks now"

Rather then "Wow Im totally fucked with bills working some
shitty job"

But then again, I think the main thing is that I want a wife
you know? I want kids at some point too. Sounds fucked up I
know but its true. And I think Im going to need to have
something that I can support a family with you know? So many
of my friends are old and single, that can be fun but I mean
that can be just a bad as doing the family thing. To me
anyway, my life is happy with love and music. The rest
materialistic non sence I dont care much for. HENCE me
wanting a shit load of money, to help ease social conflicts
I have. Its sucks being not having money and seeing idiots
waste money on whatever. It stirkes a chord of envy in me
which always makes me think "Fuck I should just be fucking
stupid like them and buy all this crap and be happy"

I find when you have money, you can just be like "Whatever
those people are shmucks."

As bad as it sounds I think I want some sort of social
defence for the future. I've been getting to much your a
lazy bum all my life. Id like to be in such a powerful
possition that I can be as much as a lazy fucking bum as I
want and noone can tell me different because Im all set.

--- Anyway I think Im side tracking. ---

What jobs make lots of money? Plumbing and Welding I hear
are good, but that seems to mechanical. I would like to be
paid for my knowledge in the field more then how well I work
with the tools.

I want lots of it because I find it useless. I hate having
to worry about it. Id like to be able to sit on a lot, so if
anything ever happens or whatever I can with ease handel
things.
Im not going to buy cars, house etc.

And when you hate money, if you dont have it, life gets way
harder. Fuck maybe I should just keep doing what I like
doing.

Ahg I dont know.

What jobs are in high demand right now ?

If you want to make loads of money in the music industry the
best route would be to study interlectual property law. It
means passing the bar but once you are done the cash wont
stop

I just found out how to become a millionaire!

first save the game as close to the Mulholland Intersection
as you possible, then go to the "track betting" near the
Mulholland Intersection and place a bet with all the money
you have..if you win, save it and go back and so on
if you loose then ofcourse load the game where you last
saved it

it might be a coincidence, but when I was going to write the
names and colours etc down, I noticed that most of the time
a horse with a name that contains 2 of the same letters next
to each other wins
like: diddy ride or donners kebab

I had to visit the betting about 10 times and now I own the
max =D

the smartest thing i can think of is to buy a cheap house,
then once you pay it off, you'll still be young and you can
just work part time to pay for electricity and whatever else
you have. thats the life, man! and if you were living with
someone else, it would be even easier. this is more or less
my plan to be honest.

"TAKE SOMETHING YOU LIKE "

Waste of time- there are plenty of philosophy/literary
graduates who are now dustbin men.

Do something you don't dislike, that will make you a
reasonable living. Unless you are doing a job you love 100%
(and know you will for the rest of your life) and are
prepared to live in poverty to do it, money will factor
pretty highly in it.

So long as the hours/work isn't hellish, it's a lot easier
to trog to work each day, knowing you'll have a bit of spare
cash to spend on stuff that makes you happy, each month.

i'm finishing my master degree (sivilingeniør@ntnu) summer
2005. but anyway i use most of my time making tracks and
that's what i like. i hate my education, and i'm not looking
forward to start working. the only plus is the saleries.
i'll get MSc in petroleum technology and can get good jobs
in the oil companies. but do i want that?

Erm, a chap named Andy did history of architecture and is
now a gardener. One of the guys I worked with as a labourer
had a philosophy degree. I have a friend named Sara who has
an english lit degree and now works in a call centre.

Admittedly, none of the above are bin-men, but they are all
doing jobs which don't even require a-levels, let alone a
degree.

The cash will mean:

a) You will be able to buy more gear/sw to do tracks.
b) You can live frugally whilst working and then retire
early and spend the rest of your days making tracks.
c) You'll have the cash to put out a record once you have
some material you believe in, which will dramatically
increase your chances of getitng to the stage where you can
live of your music.

Not that I'm extolling the virtues of capitalism or
anything.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like work, and I wouldn't do it
if I wasn't paid, but money does buy you freedom to an
extent :-/

as you said above...i'd still pick something i'd love to do
over something that pays well...although, it can happen that
you won't be able to get the job you want, so maybe picking
a school that allows you more options is well in place. i
was thinking about the same when i was 20, and i had no idea
what i want to do in my life, but now i know i'd definitely
study something else, something interesting...also, if
you're lucky enough to know what you want to do to the rest
of your life when you're deciding what to study, you get to
hang out with people that have same interest as you which is
great, especially when you get older..at least that's my
experience.
