So I was watching the latest apple press event (yes i'm shitty) where Steve Jobs revealed a business plan which he believes will give the mp3 medium commercial leverage over traditional media types.
Basically he said that the main advantage of compressed audio (in this case mp3) was that it is data and not a physical object (duh). He then went on to reveal the U2 (shitty) complete package, where you download all their albums, unreleased tracks, basically everything they put out all in mp3 format. I dont remember the price.
What do you all think of the idea of paying for an Artist's entire body of work? Do you think this business model bears any fruit? Will record labels bite?

i've never bought mp3s, and i probably never will... if an artist says, "here's something i'm selling as an mp3 only and this is the only way to get it ever" i might make an exception. but i like actually having a physical disc with proper artwork and everything. it's a different experience and i just like it better, personally.
but i suspect most people don't share my views on this, so i couldn't really speculate on whether this is a sound marketing strategy.

Bleep, of course, is a wonderful site. I should have rephrased my post to refer to the record industry at large, and not forward-thinking electronic labels. We're like, so ahead and shit.

I actually share your opinion. If I love an album, I get it on vinyl. If the vinyl isnt available to me, I'll get it on cd.
I'm interested in what the fine folks here have to think about it though.
