Halo 2

Well, Halo 2's been out for a couple of days. Thoughts?

I bought it this evening, very impressed. The AI is devious.
I was surrounded by some Elites in a courtyard, but I was
having my way with them. A couple of them jumped up on top
of the 15 foot pillars, and when I turned around after
fragging their buddy, I couldn't see them, even though they
were still on the radar. They were raining laserbeam death
down on me from their high perch. Smart. I did eventually
dismember them with some grenades, though.

It's neat that these enemies have a sense of danger and
self-preservation, though. Too many FPS' have moronic
enemies that were born to die. The elites on legendary care
about themselves, have souls. It almost hurts me more than
them when I shoot off their faces.

Quite an experience, really epic so far. Kicks off with a
bang, fuck. Riveting, and you just gotta grin when you get
to the first jeep (I usually take the machine gun at the
back... the computer drives better than me). I haven't went
online with it yet, I'll save that for when I beat the
campaign. And of course, beautiful graphics, but that was a
given.

xbox has halo, and ps2 has GTA:SA...

I'm stuck with GTA, which isn't a bad thing.

Ouch, that sucks. I'd rather be fragging the Covenant aliens
than the commies. Or whoever you guys are fighting over
there.

I still don't have GTA, but I'm looking every day... been a
week since I brought it back to Blockbuster. The game of the
year race might come down to GTA and Halo. GTA scraped out a
victory over Halo on both the Gamespot and IGN scores...

For me, it's GTA, Ninja Gaiden... or Metal Gear Solid 3,
next week.

OK so now that I have kina absorbed it a little more, I have
to say it is absolutely beautiful. Better controls, two
fisting weapons, and overall just FUNx10.

I am so anxious to jump online and play.

After getting a little further in... the style in this game
is improved big time. Lots of massive, ultra-modern alien
architecture, I'm loving it. The levels are a lot more
eventful aesthetically than Halo 1. No levels like that
boring Library. And the Arbiter level that opens up on that
cliff overlooking that massive triangle building looks
spectacular.

And the levels where you DON'T play as Master Chief are my
favorite... won't reveal too much in case it spoils
something for someone, but I like controlling the ''other
guy''... feels like a ninja with that Predator-ish stealth
cloak. When the shit hits the fan and ''you know who'' turns
on you because of ''you know what'', those Brutes are a
blast to fight.

Fucking plasma swords, man... everytime I see one, I pick it
up and make mincemeat outta motherfuckers.

Brilliant game, bought it yesterday, and have been playing it
on heroic ( is there any point playing it on an easier
setting!?!?!?! :D)
First few levals are very impressive ( where you get the
tank, and have to jump on the the big spider thing)......but
after that, its back to the alien planets and shit, great and
all that, but it should be set more on earth.......hopefully
the last few levals you return to it......
I bought gta san andreas last week as well, which is obviosly
brilliant,but i`m playing halo more now ;)
brilliant graphics,brilliant game.........

I have heard and read some bad reviews about the single
campaign storyline.

that it doesn't end satisfactorily, just kind of.. stops.

Yeah, the game ends basically in the middle of what I
THOUGHT was a level transition... the credits came up and a
speech balloon saying ''WTFOMG-already''? popped up over my
head. But looking back, the campaign is no shorter or less
satisfying length-wise than any other FPS, it just... ends
sourly, and during a really intense sequence where nothing
gets solved or completed and everything just gets crazier
and crazier. Sets us up for Halo 3, but... could have done
it better. At least let us accomplish SOMETHING. It leaves
me feeling like the universe is in even worse shape that it
was when I started the first level. And I'll have to wait
3-4 years to finish what I started.

Irritating.

Axion/Chihiro- it improves on Halo 1 in every concievable
way, though it's pretty much what you'd expect. I would say
it would be totally lame to be playing Halo 1 when you could
be playing Halo 2.

that is exactly what I heard.. sounds very annoying,
especially as (like you say) it'll be years till it gets a
sequel.

Is anyone here online with HALO 2?

I plan to be getting the XBOX live link this week. My good
friend was also dissapointed with the "Campaign" mode
ending. He also said that the online expierence makes up for
it x10. I hope its as good as he's saying and as good as I
have read.

So far I am on the "temple in the middle of the lake" part,
yeah I know its not far but I am not that good @ the game
yet.

I do love this game alot, 9.9 out of 10

yes, the game is excellent. there's a Halo 2 tourney at a
local anime shop soon, with a cash prize, so me and my
friends need to brush up on our skills. I do have one
comment though - the mulitplayer seems to be a bit lacking -
been playing multiplayer at this store, and it seems very
often that it is a race to see who gets to the sniper rifle
or sword first.

but yes, i have high marks for this game. the cinematics are
excellent, controls splendid as usual with Halo, and the AI
is top-notch. Legendary is SO difficult - and SO fun -
especially since they ditched respawning - they upped the
ante for sure.

I bought H2 tuesday and have managed to tile the kitchen-
install an over the counter microwave and still play it most
of the way through-yeh and I worked 40 hours- top that you
slackers!. Normal difficulty does seem a bit easy- so you
might wanna up it first time through- I didnt though so I
can just kinda run through it as the bodies pile up around
me.

The vehicle play is what's the tits of this incarnation.
You get the opprotunity to destroy major machinery. I
cannot describe how pissed I am that I did not get to pilot
the giant Crab thing.

bought the " special limited edition" cus its got a dvd
making of, spiffy aluminum case and 2 months free "Live".

PS2 owners can suck my bump-mapped Master Chief! Go play
gangster and jack a lamborghini tool!

I went through the game on easy the first time, heh. I just
wanted to see the sights and do the story unhindered. There
really are some remarkable space opera moments.

I moved up to Legendary after beating the game once...
promptly got owned, hardcore. I mean, ''die 30 times before
I can beat a flying elite squadron'' hardcore. Just beating
the first red elite was a fucking chore. And it think it
took me a good 45 minutes just to get out of that first
hangar bay (where you get the grenades for the first time).
Seems considerably harder than Halo 1 on that setting, to
me... so for now, I'm going to play through on Heroic, I'm
handling myself well. I'm not a AAA Halo player, so this
setting is finely tuned to my skills.

I love the headgames you have to play with the AI to beat
them on Heroic, and especially Legendary. The higher ranking
fuckers can can get a headshot from 100 feet away if you
leave your ear visible from your cover for 2 seconds...
arg... it really takes some effort to out-fight them. I
don't think anything in an FPS is as satisfying as making a
(Legendary) red or white elite back off behind a wall to
catch their breath, then sneaking around behind them to get
the one hit melee kill. Such a relief when you catch them
being careless.

One thing I miss from the Rainbow Six games... leaning. I
always feel like such a huge target when I sidestep out to
get a shot off.

I always miss that in games too, although not because of
Rainbow Six, but because of Thief, and just to have a look
really, not to shoot - I just want to be able to have a look
what the hell is happening without getting shot to pieces.

The game seems nearly impossible on Legendary. I'm really
getting my ass handed to me everytime I try. Heroic is
really hard too, but the game is generous with the
checkpoints and has non-existent load times, so it's never
frustrating. Heroic is perfectly balanced and paced.

Man, though... I had to get really lucky before I managed to
beat those hangars on Legendary...
