Does anyone use/know anything about this software? It
looks interesting. I don't have any recording studio
software for my computer yet - can I use the Ableton Live
for this, or must the Ableton be used in conjunction with
other recording software? Thanks.

I have used ableton live a little bit. And from what little
i have done i really like it.

It is supposed to be real real stable for live music

Do you have independent recording software (such as Adobe
Audition)?

No, i use 100% software. I feel more open. I dont know why
but i feel restricted and confined when i use hardware as
odd as that will sound.

I like being able to fly through various programs at the
click of a button, i can stay in a zone and move quickly and
efficiently!

What does Adobe audition do?

It's software. It's a multi-track recorder. I'm just
wondering if the Live software will perform the same
muti-track recording functions or not.

ableton live is more for live performing... if you really
want a good recording software supporting multiple tracks,
i'd choose cubase or logic instead...

i'd pick acid over ableton if your mixin together audio, but
personal preferance at the end of the day

ive been using ableton for a few years. it can do what you
want, it's not (as the name suggests) just for live, it's a
great audio/vsti sequencer

I am going back to the hardware. It's expensive, but it's
more fun. I'm sick of software and the utter inundation of
new things. I can't think straight. I just bought an atari
st with c-lab notator for 100 bucks. I have a couple
analogue synths with midi. I need to get a sampler and some
effects. Maybe a dx7. It's just more fun. If Im on my pc im
usually worried about the latest updates or new emails.
etc...

plus, there's tons of old stuff out there for really cheap
now. Really good effects boxes. Racks made for doing certain
sounds. Things made long agao that are just as good as vsts
and really cheap. Stuff I couldn't afford at the time..
haha

Post your 'analogue' nonsense if you dare...........

bogala, where?

I like Logic, but it's only for Mac isn't it?

I'm recording a singer/songwriter friend using this software
and it is fantastic. The workflow is easy to manage; easily
colorcode and rename clips, scale and edit the rythm of
drumtracks to "fit" the audio. Plus I had about 6 different
tracks going and it only was indicating 3% of system
resources in use!

Disagreed. The reason why it is "suitable for live
performing" and is marketed as such is simply because the
interface design is incredibly transparent and intuitive.
It's an excellent DAW in its own right.

Ableton is that bomb. Stable live performances (I have seen
akufen use it live, and it sounded phat), and you can do
full live mastering, that also sounds phat. If you use
floops, and want a more natural human arrangement, try
breaking all your fruityloops down, and then mixing it in
ableton.

Its super easy to learn how to use as well. Low maintenance.

ableton is a brilliant piece of software, i've used it for
about a month now. The built in audio effects are awesome,
especially the resonator and grain delay. You can trigger
sounds from Reason by using the Rewire function.

What is Reason - multi-track studio software? If so, how
is it?

Best way to describe it is a reasonably accurate emulation
of hardware.

Ok... But can it be used as a home studio, or do I need do
go with Cubase or Adobe Adution or something like that?
(Seriously, I know jack about computer recording.)

Empricus, friend. Are you looking to do recording of audio
signals primarily? If so, dont touch reason or fruityloops.

Live will let you record with ease, sequence midi and has
full rewire functionality. Plus it is actually affordable to
non-EMI executives.

You can't use reason to record other stuff into, so if you
have hardware synths/drum machines etc. you won't be able to
use it in reason (on its own).

Please elaborate a bit more on what you want to do exactly
and maybe we can recommend some other software? Are you
looking for something to "make" sounds in, or something to
arrange sounds made from other programs/sample CDs/from
"real world" instruments/etc.

I need software that basically acts like a multi-track
recorder (such as my Tascam 424 MK II tape 4-track), but I
also want to be able to fuck with what I record as much as
possible. I'm also planning on buying some sort of interface
and a synth controller (any recomendations as to which
interface and what syth software is good would be helpful)

Ableton Live would suit you well. Try the demo.

For the controller, this would be sick. boop

Ableton’s Live 4 :: Review by Nate Harrison
Read entire article..

"...Live 4’s new features (the biggest
one being Ableton finally adding full blown
MIDI support) are enough to make even
the most eclectic gear fetishists out there
contemplate dumping their setup in favor
of this seemingly all-in-one solution..."
