i think whats most striking is that the sophistication of
vocal content has fallen as if in line with the technical
improvement in music production

Fuck melancholy. I'm listening to Tundra 4 and it's not
melancholic.

True. I've heard the most boring, rote indie-rock ever, by
kids as young as 15... with shimmering, beautifully recorded
guitars and crisp percussion. I always hear a lot of
so-called ''lo-fi'' which sounds downright polished and
sanitary compared to music that was considered ''lush'' and
well-produced back in the '70s or sometime.

And I sort of agree with the topic, though not really with
the timeframe. Probably been a bit on the dark side for more
than 15 years. ''Edginess''= accolades. Most of my absolute
personal favorite music has a healthy dose of naivety and
charm in it, though.

But there will always be a place in my heart for a dirge...

many techno indus albums were released more then 15 years
ago, more dark and melancholic then now i think

popmusic has always his happy moments, as electronica has

the range of emotions expressed by art probably hasn't ever
changed... what has is what constitutes these emotions, and
how we signify them... and perhaps that's why there is
something more disturbingly resonant for us to be found in
the current set of melancholy... simply because it is more
relevant to our current conceptions of the world...
