Registry hack for unwanted startups

This might not be the best place to ask this, but...
Everyone knows that Quicktime and Real Player are shit when
it comes to putting things in your startup key (TkBell.exe
and QuickTimeTask which fucks up ALOT of stuff). I don't
want alternative players, or any added software to keep
their little startup proggies from doing just that. SO I had
the idea to do a batch file @ startup to keep them out of
the Run key in HKLM. This is the only idea I can come up
with is an old school batch file that would run @ startup to
put them in to the Run- key (There's no option to keep these
fukers @ bay in any program menus). Then I thought.... uh,
that wouldn't work, because they would have already been
initialized @ startup. Right?
Here's what I got so far:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run-]
"TkBellExe"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Common
Files\\Real\\Update_OB\\realsched.exe\" -osboot"
"QuickTime Task"="\"C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\QTTASK.EXE\"
-atboottime"

Any ideas?

Neh.. crap.
It would ask me every single time @ startup "If I would like
to merge this into the registry"
There's usually a /y switch after some DOS commands that
will turn off the prompt... but for a batch file?
HMMMMM Dammit
I know. I love a challenge.

Plus msconfig doesn't always work.
When Quicktime initializes inside a webpage in IE, it loads
the Quicktimetask module in the Run key EVERY TIME. Doesn't
do that when watched in Mozilla! So even if there is an
entry for Quicktime tast in the Run- key, it's still added
to the Run key.
YARRGH
Same thing goes for Real Player, 'cept it loads it every
time no matter what.
I DON'T WANT TO CHECK FOR YOUR STUPID PROGRAM UPDATES EVERY
TIME!!!!
There, hope they got the message.

Nope.
$30 for something I already have w/ Systemworks.
I didn't see that it would prevent stuff in startup,
either.
Unless I'm mistaken.

beaten me to the crunch.

Did u see my post #3...
"msconfig doesn't always work..."
msconfig startup tab is just a GUI to the Run keys in the
registry. Even with those entries in the Run- key (aka
unchecked in msconfig) they still get put back in the Run
key when Quicktime runs inside IE and when Realplayer runs
anways. It's one big fuckmess!!!

I'll check out HijackThis, but I hope it doesn't install any
extra software in startup. A batchfile wouldn't install
anything. I see this as a general help for anyone else who
wants these damn things out of their startup; Not just for
my qualms. I'll post elsewhere, like some techie boards and
see what I come up with... I'll let you all know if I can
get it working or not. Thx all

in w2k i freqently delete most startup entries. it has never
effected any program or plugin or whatever plus it speeds up
things. you shouldn't delete more than those, however :)
