Yes but Bush and his administration have the control of the vote's machinery. Remember four years ago, and the vote's system, which gave to Bush the presidence thanks to fakes voters and computers' problems...
I don't trust the american vote's system. Easy to control it. Easier for the President than for the candidate, isn't it ?

Bush is a dangerous extremist, Kerry, just doesn't seem like that at all. I don't think Kerry would rush to war like Bush, I don't think Kerry will speed up development of nuclear weapons like Bush does and will keep on doing, I don't think Kerry could be anywhere near as bad as Bush with regard to the environment.
To quote Kerry "we should be leading the world on nuclear proliferation"
So in answer to your question, yes I do think some things will change for the better. Not all, and I understand why you asked that... and you do have a point to a certain extent.
I think the underlying fact here is that Bush is so bad, you could have Mickey Mouse in office and he'd do a better job.

Effectively a vote for Bush then? Or are you in an already decided state?
The ellectoral college thing is confusing, whats wrong with a popular vote? Something that Bush lost by 500'000 votes in 2000.

i've definitely already decided who i'm voting for. and it is a myth that voting for a third party candidate is like voting for bush. what, third party candidates aren't allowed to run? you have to be a puppet of the major corporations and lobbyist groups to qualify to be president?
if the democrats lose, it will have been their own fault. they would love to blame a third party candidate for getting 1% of the votes - that's stupid. why don't they win by a large margin? a landslide? because people are generally disenfranchised with the democrats. it's obvious that they're largely the same party as the republicans.
and i totally agree that the electoral college is rubbish. there have been better voting systems proposed, but don't hold your breath. the two major parties love flawed voting systems so that people become cynical and don't care anymore, allowing them to get away with gross corruption, like what happened in florida and what i'm sure you'll see again this year.
so why vote at all? because it's the very least anyone can do.

it's fine to ask a question like that. the answer is that kerry isn't the only alternative to bush. even though there is next to no coverage, ralph nader is running as an independent candidate, and there are also smaller parties that have candidates running. there are many choices, but they have no real way of getting heard by lots of people.
not to mention, nader is kept from appearing in debates, kept off ballots, etc. the people in charge don't like real dissent.

"Ralph’s own party, the Green Party, would not endorse his run this year. That’s because those of us who want to build a third party in this country know that the only way to do this is to build bridges with those who believe in the issues Nader believes in. But not one of those people will sacrifice the chance to remove George W. Bush from the White House on Tuesday. The choice here is clear: do we join with our friends, or do we piss on them?
After the debacle of 2000, the Democrats got smart and abandoned the conservative wing of their party. That’s why 8 of the 9 Democrats in the primaries this year were from the liberal wing. Ralph should take credit for that and declare victory. It’s so sad that he doesn’t realize the good he’s accomplished. But for reasons only known to him, he’s more angry at the Democrats than he is at Bush. He has lost his compass. I worry he has lost his mind. But he still gives a great speech!
And Lila Lipscomb, the mother from Flint who lost her son in Iraq, she still grieves -- as do the mothers of 1,120 others (not to mention the mothers of the 100,000 Iraqis who have died because of Bush’s war). That’s what this election is about. Not Ralph proving some point. Almost none of us on his 2000 advisory group are supporting him this year. His total lack of respect for his best friends should tell all of you something about what he really thinks of you, too."

"In my last message to Michael the Second I mistakenly believed that your views had not changed, with an exception or two, "It’s that your circles have changed. Too much Clinton, not enough Camejo," I observed. Now on "The Rose Show" you, the great freedom fighter, urged us to withdraw, urged rejection of the opportunity for millions of Americans to vote for a candidacy of their choice and a good agenda for their future.
So the anti-war Michael supports the pro-war Kerry; the anti-Patriot Act Michael supports the pro-Patriot Act Kerry; the pro-tax on corporations Michael supports the low tax on dividends and capital gains Kerry. What ever happened to the great resister?
Do you think any of the corporate lobbies are quaking in anticipation of a Kerry win, e.g. the military industrial complex (to use Eisenhower’s warning phrase), the pharmaceutical, nuclear power, banking, securities, insurance, petrochemical, agribusiness, biotechnology, real estate and fossil fuel industries. The corporate government in Washington is the permanent government – as you well know. "
-- ralph nader, in response to michael moore (excerpted)

come on, man - give a reasonable explaination why people shouldn't vote for nader. moore couldn't - the best he could do was to try and attack him personally to attempt to discredit him and call him insane. that's juvenile. you should bear in mind that moore has a personal history with nader that seems to be much less than best buddies. it's even in his book, "stupid white men".
besides, the things he says there just aren't true. nader left the green party to run as an independent. the people who have left his campaign total about 70, and even they say to vote for him in non-swing states.

there is a reason why republicans worked so hard to get Nader on the ballot in swing states. they want liberals to waste their votes on a candidate that doesn't have a chance in Hell of winning.
why shouldn't you vote for Nader? Because it is just throwing your vote away. You might as well write-in your vote for Mrs. Piggy or Donald Trump. You'd be making a statement against the system, and it won't make you look like a naive hippy.

Nothin' personal dude. I was kinda out of line with the "naive hippy" comment but i was trying to make a point. you know, talking politics is like talking religion. everybody is very adamant about their personal beliefs.
i agree that Kerry is not the perfect candidate. But he is a Helluva lot better than Bush in my opinion, and he is the only candidate that has a chance to remove this crooked administration. I wouldn't want to risk giving Bush any chance to win, especially if it comes as close as it did in 2000, and a couple Nader votes could have given Kerry a large enough margin to make stealing another election impossible for Bush.
even if you are in a state that is definitely going to Bush, by voting Kerry, and giving him a larger lead in the popular vote, i believe you can help make a Kerry victory less disputable in the inevitable post-election debacle to come.
so in summary, i don't think you, specifically, are a naive hippy.

What evolume said is true, rf. I would honestly approve of what you are doing in any other circumstance, however this election isn't your typical election. I hate the 2 party system as much as you but lets be real about this for a moment: If you want Bush out of office with no chance of becomming president again, you have to vote Kerry .
And its not even a matter of throwing away your vote on another party, its about everyone working together to reach a common goal, and that goal is to get rid of Bush.
If we succeed, then next election we give more votes to a third party (provided the next republican nomnee isn't Hitlers zombie corpse running for office).
I applaud you for voting with your heart, but the fact that you live in a Bush state should mean that you have to balance the scales all the more...
