The raymond briggs book / animation. I watched the film
tonight for the first time in ages, and Jesus H Corbett,
this is one of the saddest things i've seen in a long time.
I'm not old enough to remember living in the "protect and
survive" era, but fucking hell... it all seemed too real.
Horrible, hopeless feeling. I shed a little tear tonight.
Anyone else seen or read it?

yes, I have the book.

and I had seen the animation. reminds me that I have to
download it.

anyway - the book is more powerful, I think. very sad and
funny at the same time.

Aye, the book gives you more time to ponder i guess. I've
got it somewhere, but it'd take some serious digging in
piles of crap to find it, sadly. Rather heartwrenching stuff
either way. The bit where the lady blows the dead dandelion
seeds into the air and it turns into that innocent fantasy
landscape... fuckin' ell.

Too Sad For Human Consumption. Certificate Eight Teen.

the images of the planes starting to fly.. or when the bombs
actually drop and the strip itself gets blown away.

I love that.

Indeed. It wouldn't be half as bad if that peaceful rural
life wasn't emphasized so much... it's the horrible contrast
that really quite upset me tonight. Thank god i developed a
sense of cynicism before The World Situation Of Awful Terror
In Today's Modern Age Of Evil Islamic Technology came about.
Phew.

About 90 minutes for the film. I forget how long the book
is.

oh, this movie is intense. i found it to be very moving and
i was very, very sad at the end... much heavier than i had
thought it would be. but it was also really well-done, i
think.
