WATMM Digital Media Is Live!

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2004-10-28 14:16 [#01375298]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Our new digital media service launched today, WATMM Digital
Media (WDM). Our first release, Autopilots by
BeginningAlgebra, is on sale now for purchase and download
for as low as 3.00USD for the whole album!

The goal of WDM is to put out great music (obviously), but
also to get the artist exposure he or she would otherwise
not get, and make some cash to boot. 60% of income goes to
the artist, and we're always looking for other artists
wanting to do a release with us.

Head on over to http://beginningalgebra.watmm.com/ to
purchase the album, and check out http://forum.watmm.com for
more details on WDM. A proper site for WDM and WATMM Records
will go up soon, as will info about our first release, WATMM
|Volume One which will be out first week of November.

Thanks for your time and support!

holding one buttock with the other butt cheek next to it and
a penis at the end...sums you up perfectly.

the samples sound good, yet i'm not going to buy the
tracks or anything , i don't know what's up with all this
d/l nonsense like this and bleep.com these days, i'm only
getting me original cd's, when i buy a release i want a
quality cd with artwork on decent paper and stuff.
i don't wanna print my own artwork and burn my cd's like
it's some kind of do-it-yourself pack (i don't even have a
burner or colorprinter y'know)

anyways, if this guy is that good he'll get signed and i
might buy his stuff, otherwise i'll obviously just rip it
off of slsk.
goodnight

Actually I was being pretty much serious. They take most of
the money from their releases, the artist doesn't get much
at all. I remember J saying he earn't more money off Family
Glue than he did from all his releases on Rephlex combined.

40% seems like kinda daylight robbery, yes. Especially for a
web-only release.

And you wonder why people dislike this place so much...

The 40% is my cut, for the server space, bandwidth and time
- I think giving an artist 60% is a fair deal, considering
they made the music, but may not have the time to do all the
work in putting up a secure download site, etc. Global Goon
is an exception.

I knew posting this here was a mistake... you children still
have a way to go until you grow up.

i just made an on-topic reply about the fact that i'll never
pay for mp3-or other music-files,
it's like buying a book in MSword format, and having to
print it yourself,
all the charm of an original release is gone

No, I understood there would be resistance, but I weighed
the prospect of getting attacked (which I did) versus
exposing people to BA's music, which is the whole point of
WDM.

I'm not out to make money on this, more to promote the
artists that make good music and don't have the time and
knowledge to do stuff like this themselves. That's why the
prices are low, and we offer a bit more in terms of
printable artwork, etc.

Dear me, I really don't know why you lot have to be so
objectionable. Really people, for fuck's sake, grow up and
show some respect. You might not have anything to lose by
being unpleasant but that's not an excuse to do it.

Attitudes here have really gone down the shitter lately,
it's no wonder people have a bad opinion about xlt when any
new user or someone from watmm gets instant abuse.

GROW THE FUCK UP

Facetious responses will be deleted.

I don't have any problem with web-releases, least of all by
people considered talented by the most fabulous of
geek-communities, the Eye Dee Emm Massive. I won't pretend
to like joyrex, as he tends to rub me up the wrong way for
some reason, and i still think 40% is a bit much to skim off
the top (bearing in mind my knowledge of wattm economics is
minimal to zero), but like, yeh. Fair enough for actually
getting some "official" downloads going and supporting the
artist etc.

Sorry, couldn't resist! :D

Sounds like a good idea and a reasonable price. Of course,
the quality of the artists on such a scheme make or break
it. I'll check out the samples when I get a chance.
