would it seem any wrong to you if paintings by very well-known artists were sold $30, a bottle of perfume 50 cents, a vinyl record $5000, an apartment €10, if a trip in the woods was paying and a cinema place free...?
of course if caviar had the price of ice cream and ice cream the price of caviar, caviar would just be a banal product and probably not something so delicious everyone would rush to buy it. i bet lots of rich people buy caviar not for the taste but for the style, and it tastes better because it's so overpriced.
if caviar and ice cream were the same price, would you rather buy a pot of caviar or a pot of ice cream?
of course, i know it depends on the production costs and all that, and i'm not saying all the prices are injustified (even though some really are) but it just seems so strange to me, and frankly, almost completely random.

Maybe you have a point there. What if potatoes was a rarity that only grew on the top of the himalya and a 2 kg bag costed half a months pay.
Would we think potatoes tasted like heaven ? For the record i myself like potatoes but you know....
I love most expensive stuff like caviar and sea food and find it to be almost equal to sex when its really good.
The price make it so i can't eat it everyday tho wich makes it special.
One thing that has a really justifyed price tag is the meat from an ox wich is better than any other kind of meat.
It is worth every peny. Buying crap meat just to save money is stupid , you end up with a beef flavoured chewing gum.
Salmon isn't super expensive but could certanly be cheaper since it is easy to farm/grow (whats the word here?)
Anyways , it certanly is an interesting question Uzim. I wish i had my old swedish teacher here who specialised in answering philosphical questions like this.

you can taste how expensive a bottle of wine is
but im inclined to agree. i value travelling on foot more than cruising around in a sports car

"The price make it so i can't eat it everyday tho wich makes it special."
> yes, that must have a great importance too (probably more than the price itself directly).
"you can taste how expensive a bottle of wine is" > sure. but i think you can do this for a lot of things... (even though sometimes cheaper stuff can be better than more expensive, or the difference being big in price but small in quality - not always, but it happens.)

LOOK ! Take the movie "Fast and the ffourious" for example. it took 50Million Dollars to make, but artisticlly its not worth a cent.
Same with ART. People buy it cuz it is a privilge, but they don't understand anything about ART or the creative process. Thats why Andy Warhol was so succesful, and rightly so

cheap wine is much more likely to get you hungover or sick, and tastes closer to vinegar. while an expensive wine can be a very pleasant experience, and make your insides feel like a cozy fireplace.
ive got something not Expensive but not cheap on me right now. ive had so much cheap wine in my time that this is going to great after this working week!

Ha! good point. This ads another dimension to the disscusion. I guess art is completely different in this sence (value) then for example the price of food and beverage.
Its in the eye of the beholder.
Look at the incredibly redicilous movie "Independence Day" wich i think is posibly the creapiest movie in history if you think of Cost vs Artistic result. The only thing it got going is the cool explosions in the begining. The rest is imature and clumsy pro american wank. The fact that the aliens didn't win at the end made me want to throw buckets of goat sperm at the director.
Good thing for the humans that the aliens used macintosh systems to run their motherships so they could plant the virus and defeat them.

Most wines are priced by where the grape grows
The better grapes are grown on cliff sides apparently so these need to be picked by hand as no machinery can get to them, hence the price of labour etc

But for another (lesser) person the movie was a religious experience.
