Gay pop singer Marc Almond is in intensive care, after being involved in a road accident in London on Sunday. Almond was injured after a motorcycle he was riding on as a passenger collided with a car in London's financial district during the afternoon. The former Soft Cell front man is said to have received emergency surgery late Sunday night, and is now in intensive care. The driver of the motorcycle -- whose name was not released -- also has severe injuries, according to Reuters news agency. London police released a statement Monday confirming that the passenger was Almond. As well as being one of the biggest pop stars of the 1980s, Almond is one of the first out pop stars to top the charts. Well-known for his cover of "Tainted Love" in 1981, he also became famous for his outspoken views and uncompromising comments about his sexuality. Police say they are investigating the crash.
