As a suggestion for another permanent body alteration in the
name of culture, I recommend placing gold rings around your
neck to stretch it longer and longer, adding a new ring
every time there's room. It's popular in africa I hear,
rightfully so.

star wars kills. i'm a tad obsessed. not so sure i want a
tattoo anymore, and if so, not some pop culture logo. maybe
star wars but probably not.

anyways:

there's a guy at my school who has that same deal. exact
same deal.

now that's overkill i just want the teeny little imperial
and rebel logos. even if i live to despise star wars they
are still nifty looking logos.

and they'll be on the backs of my arms so it's not like i'll
have to look at them if i end up hating them in 10 years
(which i wont).

i dont' know how to say this without sounding incredibly
geeky but: it wont be in the name of pop cultre. It's just
that I've loved those films since I was about 7 years old.
It's more of a personal thing to me, and when i see anything
star wars related (episode IV, V, and VI mind you) i get
giddy. It's just a nostalgia thing for me. I recently
bought the box set and it rekindled my love affair for the
films and whole star wars thing in general.

when i said pop culture, it really is when you think about
it. but i know exactly what you mean about nostalgia and
seeing it in a different light other than the culture aspect
of it. i've been watching star wars basically since i was
born (be it in the form of muppet babies or the movies
themselves) and the entire story has just evolved so much
within my mind, through books, toys, games, etc... you know,
every time i look up to the night sky i think that all the
event in the star wars movies are happening/are continuing
somewhere...

like i said i'm obsessed. its just with all the hype around
the movies again makes me realize that they are just movies,
and that's just a tad disappointing to me.

you know what? go get those tattoos. and post pics somewhere
when they're done. :D

all the lucas ass kissing on the DVD also put me off a
little.

yup. same here. but hey, star wars is star wars! i'm just
finishing up heir to the empire (finally) and it's just
perpetuating my love for the story! read the bounty hunter
wars series if you haven't. also the tales from the cantina,
etc... books.

honestly, i don't think star wars belongs to lucas anymore.
he's fucked it up so bad lately that everything not by him
is all that much better.

hmm...that's a good point. those are really precise designs,
and a slight miscalculation in skin tension may cause them
to look like hell. might i suggest cutting a stencil and
spray painting them on instead?

You could get a cross and a pentagram on each arm... Those
are still 'nifty looking logos'... And they'd most likely
stay more culturally relevant than Star Wars designs. Or you
could get "love" and "hate" tattoo'd on each hand for that
whole 'duality of opposing energies' type of thing.
Also, I feel a tiny tattoo on the back of an arm would look
kinda stupid. You'd might as well get them tattoo'd on each
kneecap, or ass cheek. But seriously, I would get something
more meaningful than just pure nostalgia.. If I was
going for nostalgia, I would get a huge Snuffalupagus (or
however you spell it.) Or Bert on One arm, and Ernie on the
other (You could be all snobby to others and say, "It is
certainly not for the nostalgia! They represent my id and
anima.)
Just kidding, man. Seriously, do what makes you happy. I
just feel like being a jerk. But maybe you will reconsider
and thank yourself later. It's not easy to predict how you
will feel about something like that in the future. Don't be
rash.
Or, be rash, get drunk one night and get the Operation game
board tattoo'd on your chest and get Candyland tattoo'd on
your back.
But maybe you grew up before all of that, and actually grew
up with, and watched the original Star Wars films in the
theatre, which would make getting the tattoos a bit more
understandable. But I am assuming you are young enough to
remember the other things I've mentioned and recognise them
as being almost equally nostalgic... So there.
Best regards,
Me.
