You got my help here.
BUT I can't send DVD's :D ;)
CD-R's only. I have everything minus what that list was of
the shtuff I wanted, bout a few gigs...
Was the drive still under warranty, if it had one?
Was it a Maxtor, WD, or another good brand?
I've had a Quantum (now owned by Maxtor) 13 GB ATA33 for
seven years now and it's still top notch. Just goes to show
the more you cram, the more you risk. I think they shoulda
quit at 100 GB, IMHO. There needs to be new drive tech.
worked on so we can have Star Trek-like shit!

Also known as data mirroring, RAID 1 functionality maintains
identical copies of data on different disks in an array.
Duplicating data provides high data availability. In
addition, RAID 1 improves the disk read performance, because
data can be read from two locations. However, RAID 1
decreases disk write performance, because data must be
written twice. Mirroring n disks requires 2n disks.

gotcha.

now that i've got my highspeed, i need to work on getting my
home network going. i think i'm gonna use my linux machine
as a fileserver. i've got the worst ibm deskstar harddrives
in the world in that thing right now. they've been going
for almost 5 years now... i'm expecting them to bomb any
day.
