im going from the 23rd of december to the 1st of January.

for those of you who know the place, what can i do there,
are there any cool performances in that timeframe, any cool
places?

i just dont wanna end up going there and staying in my hotel
room for a week, because thats what usually happens.

it's a pretty large town you know.

I thought it was funny. I saw a cool doc on this spanish kid
from a good family who travelled to new york. He lives on
the street and cuts the new york sky line into packs of
matches and sells them. Really awesome.

it's a little too early to find out what most live sets will
be at the end of the year. most venues only have a few
dates in december booked right now.

the places i usually go to and recommend are: the knitting
factory, the tonic, irving plaza, abc no rio, mercury
lounge, warsaw (brooklyn). those places mostly have rock or
jazz/avant-garde music, but they sometimes have electronic
music as well.

Don't go into any 'black' neighbourhoods. If you see people
on the street pretend you are dead that way you won't get
your nacmat loving ass beaten.

hmm, yes I can't think of anything bad that has ever
happened in manhatten. everywhere in new york is dangerous,
if you throw a candy bar wrapper on the floor the police
shoot you in the face at point blank range...with their gun.

manhatten is very dangerous - you will be shot on sight as
the ecnadniarb says, but manhattan is fine.

Don't go to the empire state building! it is NOT worth it!!
the people who work there have their heads way up their
asses! it is a 2+ hour wait in a poorly ventilated hallway
in the basement for a less than spectacular view!

Go to Central Park of course! check out the turtle pond!
there are lots of cute turtles!

Don't go to Coney Island! It is a total dive! I was there on
Memorial Day weekend and the place was dead! Only go if you
wanna buy crack or chili dogs!

Beware, New York Subways are hella confusing! and the people
who work there are mostly rude and unhelpful!

There are some cool clubs in the meat packing district!
They don't look like clubs on the outside though! I went to
a club where they were spinning some jazzy funk house music!
on the outside, the sign above the door just said something
like 'Wilson's Meat Packing CO.' ! you might have to check
the local 'zine's to find out locations of these clubs but
this particular place was dope! and i don't even like house
music!

There are lots of cool shops in SOHO! but they are mad
expensive! fucking $150 for a fucking t-shirt! but go in
the stores anyway! many of them are very cool inside! like
cool decor and music!

that's all i can think of now!

my sister lives in Manhatten!
it is a very fun part of town!
Remember to visit Times Square of course!
but go there at night!
it is crazy lit up like it was the middle of the day or some
shit!

there is a huge Cup-O-Noodles sign in Times Square that has
steam coming out of the top! it will blow your mind!!

i went up the empire state building when i was in NY on a
school trip a few years ago..... it was well worth it
line up was not too bad at all.... maybe 15-20 minutes

but i think it was so cool cus it was at night

it felt like batman up there!
first of all the view would obviously simply kick far more
ass at night.... but also there was some mist being
illuminated by the big spotlights that light up the empire
state building, at it felt very batman
it was also a lot of fun to step up and lean against the
angled 'dontkillyourself' chain-link fence so you could look
over the edge and a have a view not obstructed by tourists
they dont like that kind of behavior in new york though

I went up at night too! maybe the line was so long because
it was memorial day weekend! anyway, i had been up the
Eifel Tower in Paris 2 weeks earlier and i guess that kinda
lessens the impact of the view from the Empire State
Building!

So if'n you are gonna check the Empire State Building, I
guess the trick is to go when there are no crowds! for me it
was a truely awful experience!

The Virgin Megastore in manhatten actually sells IDM cds and
stuff. Nothing incredibly rare though, Astrobotnia, Afx, AE,
etc, then I saw they had DJ Shadow on vinyl and some other
random hip hop stuff... To save yourself some time, when you
go in, just take the escalator to the next floor down, it
should be right in front of you then. I bought a imported
Radiohead CD for quite a bit of cash. It was cool though,
kinda rare, imo and lots of japanese writing all over it.

yeah definately give it a look then. I saw some planet mu
stuff there too. However if its not, then you'll have to ask
around for a more 'independent' music store. Feel free to
pick up a yellow pages somewhere and browse through it and
call some places up, they'd be happy to tell you if they
have any of that in stock.

you have

A. a death wish
B. spare time to climb over drunk idiots to get where you
want to
C. a tolerance for loud noises

nah its fun. last year i was off my rocker on absynthe,
wandering the streets laughing and falling and pointing at
girls.

i blended right in.
