hi, here are two new tracks of mine:
LAZY_TITLE
the first one is called "cloud of arrows" and it's drukqs-ish, i guess.
the second one is called "pure" and it's, hm, a bit like bola let's say.
please listen and give me some feedback, even if you think they're shit.
thank you for your time. james

pure is neat. nice mixing, could use a bit more progression. Kinda reminded me of 'vespers' a bit with the noises and stuff. I think you might need some more layering on this one.
Cloud of arrows isn't anything special until about 1:20 when that flutter comes in. Melody is totally vordhosbn or something. Then it kicks up. But yeah, too afx'y.

thanks for listening. i haven't heard vespers, i only have fyuti but i plan on getting more. you're right, pure needs something more... i'll keep working on it.
yeah, cloud of arrows is pretty afx'y isn't it. i'm not sure how that happened, it was a total accident. the original plan was to try and make interesting drums using crappy 505 samples. not sure if i succeeded though.
anyone else care to listen? pleeeease?

The arrow track is just okay, it needs something a bit more to it some kind of counter melody
Pure is damn good my friend

cloud of arrows is too midi-ish for me. sorry.
pure is nice! kind of mellow ratchet-y sounds like a caterpillar marching on the edge of a leaf.

cloud of arrows sounds kind of like you remixed mt st michel as a midi file. i don't know, the melody is just kind of similiar, and i'm not liking the midi style sounds.
the other one is good though.

pure v0.03 is cool. reminds me of autechre from the envane period. the electronic "drip" sound sounds to me like it's missing the beat by a little bit, which is the only thing that bugs me.

cloud of arrows was a tad on the repetitive side, and the melody instrument is allowed to overlap itself too much at certain places, but otherwise it was good.
pure was nice, but I have nothing more to say about it.

I streamed Pure v3 and thought it was pretty rad... what did you use to make it? what are the sounds? I'd like to use that kind of sound in some work but don't know what to use...

Yes, cloud of arrows is quite nice. The beats need a little more work but yeh, it's nice. I agree that it's very Drukqs-ish, which is a cool thing to pull off.
Pure 0.3 is very good. It has a nice feel to it. Mmmm, yes, I shall download this one for sure. Good job on this one.

marlowe: when i started working on pure, i decided that i would create all my 'drum' samples from scratch. what i did was, i recorded a few minutes of audio where i was playing around with the maelstrom (granular synth in reason). i twiddled filters, and experimented with creating various blips, bloops, etc.. then i went into a wave editor and chopped it up into a bunch of short samples that i thought would work well as percussive sounds. some of them i reversed, or ran through more effects.
i was pretty happy with the results. i think i'll be doing more of that in the future. it takes a long time, but i think it makes the song sound more original.
thanks for the comments everyone.

Pure v03 was nice but i found that my attention wavered towards the end. I think it could have done with a little more detail in there. But Still good work. It is always nice to see the work of another reason user.
Cloud of arrows was great but it was very druqksesque but i did really like the way you handled the synths. And the percussive elements were nice too. I think i might download these when i get back.
