Windows XP Activation Keys

Yeahhhh, I got a slight problem here. I only have two days
to activate my Windows...and I'm not going to be able to.
My buddy gave me his CD to install Windows. It should have
worked, but evidently he gave it to a few too many as the
message says I have exceeded the number of times to activate
windows with this key.

Does anyone have some extra keys or know of a torrent or
site that has a generator? Thanks for the help.

i don't think you can get past the activation: it's coded to
the hardware of the machine that you're installing onto

no, that would mean Microsoft would not be selling Windows
on it's own.

and they do.

so..

I borrowed the XP cd from a friend too and I was able to use
a crack to register it (do it before the countdown ends or
you'll be shut out of windows). Search on astalavista,
you might have to try a bunch before one works. Look for one
that instructs you to apply it in safe mode, then enter a
certain serial in the "activate by phone" window... that's
how mine worked.

Yeah....I found that....but to get my PC into safe mode it
says to press F8 when starting up....and all that does is
let me choose what OS I want to use....

i'd been told that the activation code that gets sent to M$
(or the code that you tell them over the phone) is made up
using an algorithm which is dependent on your hardware
configuration

i guess i was told wrong :(

Nope, I successfully got through it with a generated one. I
forget exactly, but this thing down there is really good.

the code that you tell them over the phone..?

went it says "register over the phone", this means you call
them and they give you a code. they tell it to you over the
phone.

you then use this key to activate the program.

and again, how can they be selling Windows seperately from
computers if it was coded into the hardware?

no, when you buy Windows XP you get a Product Key, on a
sticker like the one shown below.

When you install Windows XP, you enter this key.

Then when the installation has finished, you are required to
activate Windows. When you activate Windows, the operating
systems looks at your hardware configuration setup (kind of
CPU, motherboard, amount of RAM, hard disc etc etc) and
looks at your Product Key that you entered earlier and
creates an activation code. this code is either sent to
Microsoft through the internet and Microsoft activates your
copy remotely, or you call Microsoft on a free-phone number,
tell them the code, and then you type in the activation code
that they give you.

yes.. I know..

but the link is only created when you have entered a key in
the first place and it is only created by the program.

point is: it's software-based, therefore it can be cracked.

have to reinstall like 6 times because the fucker keeps
getting viruses or hacked, that they will stop me because
i've installed too many times???!!!

that kind of proves that it can.. um.. be cracked.

If you incorrectly enter the key a certain number of times:
exceeding the number of times to activate is what he meant.

qrter

can you please really and seriously confirm that you have
installed it loads of times on your machine? because i don't
wanna end up with a dead PC one day

mappatazee

does this crack work on a non-corporate version?

i only ask as i would like to use my legit copy to install
onto my Virtual PC emulator

exceeding the number of times to enter the key to activate,
is what you meant?

yes, I have.

it would be rather scandalous if you couldn't do this,
simply because Windows needs a good reinstall now and then.
it can also be mandatory because of viral infections, etc.

Microsoft may be shit as fuck at times, but they haven't
tried to stop me installing my XP.

that is great news, thank you very much.

i am somewhat misinformed because when XP first came out,
there was a lot of hoohah about the product activation
process, and somewhere along the line i was told that if you
tried to install it too many times (even if it was a legit
copy, and on the same single machine) that Microsoft would
put the smack down on you.

thank you for your help in clearing up the matter :)

that would be saying "we can't solve our problems with
security, let's make it our customer's problem".

again, it wouldn't be the first nasty thing Microsoft has
pulled, but..

oooh i just had an idea, maybe i wont need the crack at all

i have a legit copy of XP Pro, and the corporate version.

i wonder if i installed the corporate version under Virtual
PC but used the product code from the legit copy, would it
work?

let's find out!

OK long story short:

The safe mode crack FUXED up my PC....bad....I had to
reformat. So this time I used my "Dell formated" Windows XP
Professional disc. I was afraid the Dell drivers would
screw up the new drivers I had to install, but to my
dismay....they didn't. The new drivers took out the dell
ones, so everything is fine....and yep now it's activated!!!
