ive never had / owned / used a minidisk player.

yet many people seem to record with it.

what are the benefits, how do you guys like it, is there
much better?

and while on the subject, i haven't had time to do very much
research on binaural mics...anyone want to 'break-it-down' ?

don't bother mate. minidisk sounds like shit. the cleanest
sound you'll get is making up your own. you can pretty much
create anything you want in reaktor, a much better
investment.

this isn't about making music, just recording.

whether from a live show or just everyday environmental
noise.

just curious, especially about binaural mics

the benefits...portable recording device with 16-24bit depth
resolution.
no magnetic tapers or shit to carry with you, only a small
box.
u also might want to keep ur eye on the frequency range of
certain models.
that's pretty much about it...the rest is on you and the
mics.

From wikipedia (I read about this the other day):

"A typical binaural recording unit has two high fidelity
microphones mounted in a dummy head, inset in ear shaped
molds to fully capture all of the audio frequency
adjustments (known as Head Related Transfer Functions in the
psychoacoustic research community) that happen naturally as
sound wraps around the human head and is "shaped" by the
form of the outer and inner ear."

dingle berry on here was saying that he had one of the dummy
head things. They are well expensive though, I think.
Another way of doing it is with a pair of in-ear microphones
which you would wear and record to a minidisc or something.

Minidiscs are very lovely. I usually only use dictaphone or
portable cassette players with crappy mics, but that's
because I'm an idiot.
