His "snowballs" series was cool, quite surprising... more focused on people's reactions that his own "mission" or whatever. A lot of his stuff is kinda pseudo-poetic nonsense i think.

Not seen the dvd but i have a couple of photography collections of his work... i always thought they were very nice to look at, and obviously involved a fair bit of effort, but i always thought the whole "land art" thing was a bit up it's own arse... if you're serious about making non-commercial art then don't take any photographs and don't tell a soul. Otherwise the concept just disappears.

The whole point of his work is the ephemeral transience of natural beauty. When he dies all the books and images of his work should burst into flames.

Photography collections in book form, which would involve lots of scanning and uploading and hassles. So no, sorry. Too lazy.

i really agree on the whole land art thing. but not on your opinion of his work.. if you get to watch "rivers and tides", give it a go. to see him at it makes sense. really.

when did he say he wanted to make non commercial art? are you broadening the subject ? ... he keeps track oh his work wich is logical, and this german dude wanted to do a documentary...no big deal... he gives lectures sometimes coz he's asked to, so what?...i wouldn't mind going to one! i'm not trying to take defense, but i really feel labelling him a fake is a bit harsh (at least for me to take in after what i saw) :)

I guess mister goldsworthy is kind of at a tangent to a lot of "land art" dudes, it seems to be more aesthetic and less conceptual... i guess my lumping him in with a militant anticommercial element might have been a bit premature. I actually like a lot of his work on a visual level, but it just feels like he's taken the land art "style", diluted the concept and taken some photographs. Dunno, i could be being a bit harsh.
Also, i have a fair bit of new stuff, but i haven't got any photos of it yet... expect some random spam etc etc some time in the future :-)

my missus spent way too long in art school, she is a fantastic photographer, VERY good....but we do argue sometimes as i feel she was taught opinions...slowly brainwashed.... and i hate that, a lot of art students come out the exact same....style acceptance followers with no balls, that become scared to be individuals.
on the other my gf was taught certain fundamentals wich are vital....
i'm not saying you are like this btw, i dunno what i'm trying to say.... let's talk about it later on in life when you've watched the dvd, wich by then i might hate. :)

Heavy teaching in creative fields can do that, fo' sho'. I've seen it in action and it ain't pretty. It's really disturbing actually... "genre" brainwashing, where every artist must be either fitted into a stylistic period or a kind of "outside the box", pseudo-maverick kind of field, overlapping heavily with the myth of the artist as a loner genius or whatever...
All Bollocks.
My objection to goldsworthy's work isn't that it's "poisoning the concept"... there's no way to dilute an idea really, it's only one person's perspective (and yes i realize this is entirely in contravention to previous posts, but hey, i've been drinking).
The thing i object to is taking somebody else's original idea *cough*richard long*cough*, taking out the element of "idea" and replacing it with something that makes nice photographs. Which is what goldsworthy's stuff makes me think of sometimes. I dunno.

i don't know who you are talking to; i assume deepspace9mm.
: /
maybe their vision just evolves...you can't stay in a static state forever...
i get tired of looking at art sometimes...because i have no memories bound to it.
when im all depressed (read: drunk by myself) and just kinda bored. .. i'll go through all my pics .. trips, whatever... raelly brings me up.
i have a hard time really "liking" a pic from anyone...kinda hard when i dont have any mems bound to it ya know?
