We agree on plenty, you just don't project any of your
thoughts in a neutral matter that I can approach.

well, those competitions where they do all sorts of
tricks...dunno what are they called, but usually you get to
hear music like that... when i find out, i'll let you know
:)

im listening to dead prez now...nothing alike what i've
heard...that sounded almost cheesy...dirty but
cheesy...dunno. it wasn't music made out of samples which is
a common thing to hip hop...it didn't sound recycled...but
it was hip hop rhythm and beats. damn.

now when i think of it, it sounded very electronic music
like but with hip hop beats...hip hop beats and some spacey
melodies...sounded much more like hip hop than electronica
though.

there's lots of albums that you can just get instrumental
versions of... if you search for those specifically... take
say for instance, all the dj premier stuff we were talking
about a day ago... you should try to find instrumental
versions of that stuff... i know for sure that Gang Starr's
latest, "The Ownerz" is available in instrumental format, as
it is listed on amg... but i bet that you can find a lot of
the older stuff as well (which would probably be better, in
a lot of cases)... you should keep an eye out for gang starr
instrumentals, and other stuff by premier... here's the link
to that premier site... check his production credits out,
and try and find a lot of the tracks... DJ Premier site

others you might try:- Jay Dee or Jay Dilla... he's done
work with Common, Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, and
others... he also has a solo beats album called Welcome to
Detroit...
-Prince Paul... has done work for lots, has a few solo
albums of his own... did a tonne of work with De La Soul...
i'm sure finding De La Soul instrumentals would not be very
hard
-Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark (the DJ's for Jurassic 5)
-RZA (Wu-Tang)
-Pete Rock
-Dr. Dre
-DJ Shadow (look for some of the older stuff he did with the
Quannum Collective)
-Madlib (instrumental versions of almost everything he's
done are available... i don't think you've heard his stuff
for The Lootpack, Declaime, Wild Child)
-Peanut Butter Wolf
-Push Button Objects
-DJ Vadim
-Dan the Automator
-Timbaland
-Steinski
etc.

really just look for instrumentals of any hip hop beats that
you like, really...

i'll look into those, although, as i said earlier in this
thread, it didn't sound like usual hip hop...it was very
simple, cheesy, great beats with spacey melodies...

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-08-28 11:51 [#01316763]

this is a bit similar to what i was thinking

sorry, i kind of skimmed over that post... i thought you
were talking about the Dead Prez song or sumpin'... this
track sounds pretty idm-y to me... when you say it's a bit
similar, how similar do you mean? are you looking for tracks
with a beat that fluxuates as much as that one?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-08-28 12:48 [#01316797]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

beats were a bit more hip hopish, and those spacey melodies
weren't as dark...but the production was that way, not as
complex though.

I bought Carboot Soul by Nightmares on Wax a few weeks ago,
and it's awesome... sounds pretty simple, like you said you
wanted, but the beats are great...
