Should the battery be empty and recharged till it's full, or can you recharge it just a liiitle bit?

in general, I hear it is best to use the battery until it is empty, then recharge till it's full. not recharge all the time just a little bit

you're wrong.
Finally, please remember it is recommended to never allow your iPod's battery to completely discharge since it is never turned totally off (it instead just sleeps - this is what provides iPod's instant on capability). You should recharge it to full charge regularly, before it has an opportunity to fully discharge (Lithium polymer batteries do not have a "memory").

Lithium ion batteries do not take kindly to frequent full or complete discharges. When possible, the optimal usage pattern - for any lithium ion battery - is a partial discharge, followed by recharging. A partial discharge can be anything less than a full discharge. However, an occasional full discharge is desirable (e.g., once every 30 charges) to calibrate the battery. Lithium ion batteries do not significantly degrade, or develop "memory", even if charged at irregular intervals; irregular charging is acceptable.

DON'T discharge the ipod battery. The ipod batter doesn't suffer from memory effect, it works better when charged often.

it's not. rather, it's no longer true. there was quite an uproar, so apple began offering a battery replacement service for $99. you get a brand new one installed. i should add that i've had mine for a year now and it's still going strong.

The actual device isn't limited, there is just a volume tag on every mp3 which can be changed in a splitsecond by using this>, but even the newest version of iTunes can do it.

i've increased the volume of my UK ipod for use with my new headphones i'm getting, its easy if you have itunes, which I assume you have if you use an ipod.
Just select all the files and go to info / options / volume adjustment and increase if however much you need, mine is 10% but i'll have to be carefull when using the in ear headphones, at least the internal amp will be powerfull enough now for the new headphones.

it is, the 20GB is the thinnest ipod yet.
you'll love the click wheel on the 4G ipod, much better than the touch sensitive buttons on the 3G

man, you've turned into how i used to be with Apple - singing their praises....just wait until you have a problem with them, and you have to send your machine in three tmes, and on the second and third time they actually fuck it up worse than it already was.
Apple will have to do a lot to reinstate my confidence in them.

i'm a graphic designer, or course i'm singing their praises :)
i've had a LOT of apple products over the years, only ever had one problem and that was with the G4 Alu powerbook screen, I sold that on ebay and bought a cheaper imac :)
out of all the apple products the 4G 40GB ipod is my favourite, i couldn't live without it.

yeah and i'm a musician, and no matter what anyone else says it's a fact that most high end studios run Apple systems. the college i went to had Apple systems, and we never had a problem with them (except where we tried to push them too far, and that was only because the systems only had 128MB RAM at the time).
But honestly, i really do belive they've gone downhill - out of the two NewWorld Macintosh systems i've had (900MHz iBook, and a 1.5GHz 17" PowerBook) both of them have had serious flaws, and when you eventually get through to technical support, you're greeted by people who
1) Don't really understand what you're saying because they're foreign
2)Don't understand what you're talking about when you say technical things (which is what I thought a technical support phone line was for
and then they have the incompetence to fuck up repairing the machine three times.
I'm dredding what happens in a few months time when my workplace starts checking phone records, because i've had to call Apple Support literally about 20 times regarding my PowerBook, and it's a national rate number.
I've lost time I could have spent making tracks, I've lost opportunities to work with bands, and I've been paying for a machine that I've had hardly any use out of.
I'm expecting my replacement either tomorrow or sometime early next week, and I swear if I have problems with this one, I'm gonna find out what my chances are of getting my loan quashed.
I sincerely hope that you do not encounter any of the problems I've had with them - I just hope that from now on I recieve the same level of service and worksmanship that you have had
