so we're getting massage-a-rama by the loungejays
re-released which isn't overwhelmingly good, but i hope the
other stuff is. i'm intruiged to hear it even if it turns
out not to be as good as newbuild.

yep exactly the kind of "everything is soo booring " answer
i'd expect from this site which is why even though i really
like and enthuse about electronic music i just don't visit
here any more
it seems that the people that use this site have an
extremely negative attitude and don't really like electronic
music much
planet mu message board used to have this problem and it's
got better but the people that use this board are much worse
.

see ya.

"ain't worth saying something unless it's positive" -
that's not strictly true, now is it? I think people are a
bit jaded with current releases, and you can't deny Rephlex
has reissued a lot of quite old stuff lately, so it's hard
to get enthusiastic, especially about 808 records I listened
to the first time they came out. If there was some genuinely
thrilling music I think you'd have all sorts of ecstatic
posts, as it is, there's not much apart from tired
regurgiated ideas and faded facsimilies of past glories.
Sorry for not being really enthused about some old reissues
and some distinctly dated and ropey sounding dancehall
grime.

mentioned in the article about 808 State, but no, I don't
think the are re-releasing that single.

dog belch i personally think the releases are the best they
have been and i wouldn't have heard the 2 3 rereleases they
have put out ie newbuild tik and tok and black devil

also i'm not sure what dancehall grime is but the bug is
pretty fresh and got the accolades too - as did the grime
lp which is really fresh to my ears and the more i check out
of that stuff the more i like it .
I liked pierre bastien and victor gama too - hardly old and
tired, that stuff, totally fresh and you really should admit
it .
you should also admit you never really heard much music like
the bug or grime too, especially as you don;t know what it
is "dancehall grime" indeed.

i think your're probably the jaded one , which record are
you actually referring to that you bought the day it came
out exactly ?
from what i can make out the prebuild stuff hasn't been
released before - so again negative assumptions, and if you
bought black devil you must be way into your 40's by now .

i don;t hear any facimiles of past glories at all - i think
alot of idm is definitley going over the same ground and has
done for the last few years and the better labels like
planet mu warp and rephlex are addressing that, planet mu
with it's rereleases of remarc, it's broad look at idm which
includes alot of styles and warp with it's taking on of hip
hop and post rock .

rather than releasing stuff that sounds a bit like aphex
autechre or squarepusher, or venetian snares but with none
of the emotion, melody or ear for atmosphere, cos that's all
i'm hearing from alot of so called idm today, show offs.

and no i'm not astrobotnia /as far as i know that's ovuca
- i;m just a punter who used to come here but now rarely
does cos of people like dog belch

it doesn't give a tracklisting for prebuild but it does
mention it. either i dreamt that the loungejays track was
going to be on it or i read it elsewhere. we'll have to wait
and see if it turns up on the release.

i was not a fan of the loungejays track but i was a big fan
of the gerald stuff, the born in the north 12" with ed
barton & chapter & the verse, and thre hot lemonade lp. the
other 12" of this era, 'let yourself go' has already been
re-released by warp, and excellent track but unfortunately
missing the carpenters 'top of the world' sample from the
end. perhaps they couldnt get permission for it

the reason for the delay of this release so far as i can
tell was getting permission from arthur baker for the
confusion remix. fuck knows why it takes 6 months for
someone to sort something like that out.

the black devil and tik & tok releases are great, btw, but i
could never get into the victor gama lp, but i really liked
the pierre bastien lp, i liked the idea of him making his
own orchestra out of mechano, an interesting listen.

Wooooah wooooah and a side order of "stop right there"!!!! I
think you'll find most people here give everything Rephlex
release a chance, but if it's not good, or that interesting,
you can't blame people for being disappointed. Or do you
just want empty, fullsome praise about EVERYTHING? I am glad
you are enthused and enjoying the music, as long as it's
genuine, but don't get pissed because other people, it might
just be me, think the lastest releases are weak. The
reissues are interesting, but they're just that, reissues.

If you want to know what record I bought when it came out
then learn to read an use your eyes to examine the phrase I
employed "especially about 808 records I listened
to the first time they came out
", do you see the little
clue I left there. That's right, it was Glen Miller.

And what is this "you should also admit you never really
heard much music like the bug or grime too, especially as
you don;t know what it is "dancehall grime" indeed.
" -
Have I got the fucking label wrong, is it actually Mashup
Ragga, or Ardkore Grime, or 2-Step Jungle, or DnB breakzzz,
whatever you call it is is very fucking dated and
uninteresting. I don't see how it's different from a lot of
other music in (I'm not even going to try and second guess
what you've decided to call it) genre of music. I tried to
be nice to you but now I hope you, being a presumptuous
fool, fuck off and post your unloved bilge on the planet mu
board.

I must say that i admire these following quotes from Dog
Belch which were directed at Grant.

Wooooah wooooah and a side order of "stop right

think you'll find most people here give everything Rephlex
release a chance, but if it's not good, or that

I will chime in with i whloleheartedly agree with this.
Perhaps they have recieved too much empty praise?

Followed up with:

Have I got the fucking label wrong, is it actually
Mashup

whatever you call it is is very fucking dated and

Once again i find myself in agreement with dog.

So it seems. I think they are losing their touch. Just my
opinion though. As their years increase, their taste in
music changes. As it does for everyone. I believe they are
unable to recognize quality currently and settle for quanity
(see Amen Andrews 5 volume snooze fest)

Again just an opinion

I wrote a reall long response but it rambled. I don't know
anymore, the thing is I am out of touch so I shouldn't try
to judge Rephlex's current releases. I like inventive,
electronic music I can listen to at home, they used to
provide that, and now they don't. I think they are serving
someone else now... who knows what the "vibe" is in the east
london club scene, what the cutting edge underground graphic
designers are listeing to, I am sure there all fucking
lapping up vintage acid rereleases, course they would, the
fucking witless cunts. Or this dark edgy ragga grime
malarky. It smacks to me of pandering to fucking bald headed
multimedia artists living "on the edge" in Hackney. Well
they're fucking welcome to it. FUCK YOU ALL!

I just thought of something.

I dont think its quite fair to judge us for having negitive
opinions about the "rehashes" as they have been refered to
as.

The same fanbase that is being addressed here in this thread
became fans through music like Aphex. This was an
aphextwin.nu message board.

With that in mind, I think it is quite fair for people to be
disappointed with Black Devil as it isn't really all that
compairable with aphex style music.

Notice how people are buzzing over the analord series. We
are all fans of aphex and that is what brought us here. I
dont think it is fair at all to judge us for not necessarly
liking Tik Tok (although i did find it interesting)

I think it would be nice if astrid-gil-botn would still come
and inform us of future releases instead of acting
boarderline childish about this whole situation.
