they were great until mp3s came around... i spent big money
($50 for a soundgarden bootleg) on some bootleg stuff in the
90s. now, anyone can make a bootleg. either record it
themselves of download it.

they vary in quality. i have a bootleg of a squarepusher
performance from the tour following the release of "go
plastic" that is poor in quality so you barely hear
anything, and then i have a bootleg of RDJ's DJ set from ATP
back in 2001 that sounds great, then again he's just
spinning (though he does throw in some squarepusher and his
own stuff of course)

i would make it a point to be sure to check the bootleg
before taking hours to download it, to make sure you're not
wasting your time on wank.

i remember when you could buy bootlegs at smaller chain
stores here in states... of course, thanks to the wonderful
RIAA, you don't get that anymore.

you're talking about Bill's records in Richardson!!!

that's where i bought bootlegs when i could... and you know
Bill always makes up whatever price he wants to charge.

yes, i'd either get mine at CD Warehouse/Exchange (they're
all franchise owned therefore they do what they wish) or at
CDX in Hurst, which was my old haunt back before it moved,
also where i did my first live show.

they had a glass case where they kept bootlegs, and had
about 50 or more of them all lined up, and one day a guy
came in and just took a look at the bootlegs, then left. The
next day, they got a letter saying they would be prosecuted
if all their bootlegs were not taken off the shelf
immediately.

Forever Young in Grand Prairie may still sell them too,
though it's been {bad pun/}forever{/bad pun} since i have
been there.

They do have a fine selection of imports though - that's
where i got some of the tougher-to-get-ahold-of-Aphex stuff,
like the On EP and the Ventolin EPs.
