...bought DOOM3 and had a quick game of it at my friendly
computer shop.

Man, I NEED a PC right now!

it's gonna cost me £900 for a machine that will run it to
my satisfaction.

I'm starting to save right now.

Was it fun? I used to watch my bro playing Doom for hours on
end. Really hurt my head and eyes but I couldn't leave

I watched my friend playing Doom3 on his laptop two days
ago. he played for about 15 minutes.

the visuals are indeed incredibly detailed, although they
constantly remind you of other games.

the gameplay reminded me a lot of Deus Ex, for some reason.

I have no idea how good the story is ofcourse, although I
thought the mayhem could've started much later.

yeah it was great!
i only got to play for a short while though, because the guy
at the computer shop seemed to be a little impatient
(although he HAD let me use the goddamn machine!)

my little bro loves nothing more than to watch me play FPS
games

Just looking at the minimum requirements make me feel a
bit... y'know... off.

I'm saving up for a custom-made computer next year though,
with any luck it will shit all over those specs!

I was in awe for much of that game (although I never
completed it, I was irreversibly stuck and needed the HD
space anyway). Visually it might look dated but I agree with
the one reviewer who said everything else was ahead of it's
time. It's like being in an X-Files episode. Only longer.
And not shit. And in the future. SO good.

at which time there'll be all kinds of new "essential" games
that you'll need some kind of sci-fi set-up that only the
Pentagon is using at the moment.

I love the sense of space in it. it feels like you're
walking around in a whole world, not just partitioned off
bits of space.

i wanna play Half-Life 2 also

but since HL2 is coming out soon, i'm sure that whatever
machine i build, will be able to run it also

halo 2 does have mutch better graphics then doom 3
in my opinion

maybe not more resolution but its more aesthetic

i hope that my computer will run good on it

what made my jaw drop about HL2 was the outside
environments

they're fucking huge!!!!!!!!!!

you have to really put the games in perspective:

DOOM3 is meant to be a claustrophobic horror, nice tight
corners with beasties lurking

Half-Life 2 is a massive, open wide, fully immersive city

put it this way: i am a self confessed id Software fanboy.
always have been, always will be.

but when i first got Half-Life, i didn't play ANY id
Software titles for about 2 months. of course i went back to
playing them, but that fact alone means that Half-Life blew
me away quite considerably, and i'm sure that HL2 will do
the same

Deus Ex is amazing. I'd love to play a Deus Ex game that
utilizes the Half Life 2 engine... mainly for those gigantic
environments. Invisible War was far too cramped, seemed to
be on a very small scale...

As for Halo, naw, I don't think it's any competition for
Doom 3, graphics wise... but I expect it to be the game of
the year.

(Ninja Gaiden is the REAL game of the year, but the industry
has ADD, it was released too long ago... and it was too
brutal for most... it won't get its due)

I think Doom is the best looking game of all time, Far Cry
isn't far behind.
