humour.

in that case Monty Python wins.

if alone because it was much more creative at the time.

Monty Python > SNL

And I live in the US, ironically.

Don't forget that Terry Gilliam is American.

I, personally, think us Yanks understand sarcasm.
There's plenty of it here.

for my dollar, stuff like on adult swim is the best comedy
out there. aqua teens, space ghost, brak, sealab, futurama &
family guy (yeah, i know they were fox shows, but still)...
its all the dopest of the dope.

the pythons are great, but can't sustain the reputation of
english humor for ever. steven wright, bill hicks, space
ghost, simpsons, ren and stimpy, etc. win out.

This all leads me to postulate that psyochological
attributes of comedy programs are more relevent to their
humour than their nation of origin.

If I made a list of the things I've smirked the most at, it
would be primarily dominated by American and Canadian
material. Hardly any Russians for some reason.

I really enjoy the fast show, little britain, and the office
on bbc america. Funny shit. Whether it saves a nation I
can't say, but they are great!

If it's Monty Python vs. SNL, then definitely Brits win..
there's too much good (and bad) on both sides to decide
though. I think Brit humor is usually more intelligent, but
I must say laugh wise I need my low brow US comedy from time
to time.

I like both. I like the British sarcastic piss take humour
and I also like the American silly wacky humour. I have
noticed that both styles have been transfered from one
country to another, so things have gotten quite mixed up. I
enjoy many comedies, i.e. Friends, Bo'Selecta, Ali.G,
Frasier, Cheers, Monty Python, Blackadder, Bottom, Harry
Enfield, The Fast Show, Coupling, Trigger Happy, Little
Britian and many many more. As you can see from my list, the
majority are British, so I guess I prefer the British
style.

p.s. The funniest films I have ever seen are 'The Naked Gun'
series with Lesley Neilson. What a legend.

I went to see Jo Jo at a place called Up The Creek, she was
a not so famous Jo Brand. She commented on my frriend's
'velcrro hairr' and how much she loved it because she could
just stick it on herr pubes and go shopping, his legs
trrailing behind her. That to me, on that night was maybe
the most funny thing in the worrld. On that night.

So, why American or British. Does the world think America
and Britain are close in nature? What about the
Aussie's,then? Or the Canadians. My nieghbors. I do feel a
kinship. I find it amazing that we speak virtually the same
languange after roughly 500 years of seperation. Plus share
many similarities after all these years.

i like anything that makes me laugh , which is very rare to
find something which will do so. but usually the only thing
that will make me laugh is random american stand up comedy.
the person that mentioned friends as a hilarious comedy
should be taken out back and administered a severe beating.

Hmm, both are great, but I'm gonna have to say British.
American comedy works best for me as cartoons (Family Guy,
Simpsons, Futurama, etc.) Anyone else got the Adam and Joe
DVD? I've been waiting for this for years, completely worth
the wait!

well, not many things can compare to monty python...

in general it would have to be english for me, although

"cause of the dirty sanches thread..."

Dirty Sanchez are Welsh not English.

Oh, and English humour shits on American. That is why US
comedy shows require teams of about 1000 writers.

I was going to mention him, until my computer restarted

Overall, British humour appeals more to me, just lately I've
into American stuff more though, the Adult Swim cartoons
click with me on some weird level.
