what is the primary purpose of a condenser mic? is it just
for vocals? are instrument mics versitale or do you have to
further specify it.. like piano mics, acoustic guitar mics
etc? or can you use a condenser for all this?

i hope this helps

It is used a lot for vocals because each design has a
different sound due to the onboard pre amps and different
material diaframs (electrect, mylor ect ect) some distort or
attenuate different frequencies which can give
vocals/acoustic guitar nice warm sounds. They also have a
good range of SPL handling (excpt not as loud as most
dynamic mics). Instrument mics usually (not always) are made
to fit the instrument (the casing) and the insides are
usually the same as any other mic and have a fixed polar
pattern. A condenser can be used really for anything as long
as its not TOO loud (snare, symbol at close range) but they
can be delicate and require batteries or phantom power (as
it is essentialy a capacitor) which can sometimes be a pain.
I cant be more help than that really.
