i was originally going to post this in the draft 7:30
thread... but then i realized i wanted to make a general
recommendation for these guys anyway... plus, as much as it
does resemble ae in spots... most might find the comparison
misleading... as in general, this stuff is a lot more noise
based than it is rhythm based... i'll probably post more
stuff here later... here's what i had originally planned on
posting:

"for things similar in avant sensibility to autechre... i
would recommend hunting stuff down by some of the swiss
electro-acoustic improvisers... it's definitely not as
rhythmically driven (well certainly not always), but
texturally, i think they are pretty similar... anything by
the members of Poire_Z (Gunter Muller, Erik M or Norber
Moslang and Andy Guhl aka Voice Crack)... might be of
interest... some stuff by Muller is a pretty far cry from
autechre, as he is a very versatile collaborator... but it's
all definitely worth hearing if you don't mind stuff that is
more noise/texture driven that beat driven...

La Voyelle Liquide

Oystered

listening to the extract off the first link you
posted...definitely close to Autechre, both sound a bit
alike, both very robotic, very cold, very weird.

interesting, but i probably won't check any further, because
of that... having 6 Autechre releases and 2 collaborations
is already far too much. besides, it seems very rare
(Poire_Z) and hard to get, am i wrong...

thanks for posting this though =)
and Autechre lovers, check it out...

i really wish you had slsk so i could send it to you...
because that particular album is not that much like ae when
you have the chance to actually sit down with it... it is
sort of difficult to get though... yes... (no more difficult
than Solilioque for Lilith though! :D)

*whispers* you see i'm actually trying to trick people into
stepping into an entirely different musical universe... so
far my attempts have not been successful, so i figured i'd
through the "ae" word around... (and don't get me wrong...
there are aesthetic similarities... at least so far as both
entities are very meticulous in their attention to detailed
texture)... but really that particular album is a mind-fuck
all its own...

hmm.. ok : )

(i wish i had slsk too!!)

about "stepping into an entirely different musical
universe", have you ever heard something by Bernhard
Günter? or off the Trente Oiseaux label (even though
everything on the label isn't like that)... the genre is
sometimes called "lowercase music", it's music that really
requires -and deserves- a lot of attention for it's almost
silencious, very subtle sounds and compositions... lots of
silence too.. it's as minimalistic as it's affecting, it's
crazy how it manages to convey such emotions/ambiance with
so few sounds - if you haven't heard, i recommend "Un Peu De
Neige Salie".

http://www.trenteoiseaux.com/
http://www.bernhardguenter.net/
(though none of these sites have sound samples, which is a
shame - you can find some by searching
http://www.aquariusrecords.org, and maybe
http://www.allmusic.com but i'm not sure)

i have heard one of his albums... not that one... though...
i will try to find it, since you think so highly of it...
and the fact that you like that kind of stuff is exactly why
i think you are someone who would like a lot of EAI stuff...
it's minimal, it's maximal... but if you put in a little
effort, the pay-out is huge...

EAI = Electro-Acoustic Improv = ambiguous genre distinction

recommended releases off the top of my head:

View From The Window

Time Travel

The World Turned Upside Down

this album

Brackwater

Strange Love

but really there are tonnes of thrilling improvisers out
there... this is just a small selection...

It sounds like i'm gonna like it... i've been looking for
something like that, autechre but more noisy. merzbow is
good but sometimes i'd like some harmonies in it. I'll
definately check it out!
