god is so dead

remember way back, when god used to be awesome? god was
new, and there was so much exciting god stuff coming out..
of course everyone knew the bible, it became mainstream so
fast, but there was the divine comedy, and the confessions
of augustine, and other stuff.. there was so much stuff
being produced, but it was all indie..

ow it's such a trite scene.. the churchs are all so old, and
everyone looks kinda bored, and kids think it's so cool to
wear a cross.. it's like, hello, you're two thousand years
too late!

*sigh* god used to rule.. but god is so dead now, and we
have killed him. i need something new. maybe scientology.

Perhaps the new religion is music. It is, after all, also a
very successful replicator.

the bible is the number 1 selling book on the entire planet
so i dont really feel god is dead. maybe just inexistence in
the spiritiual sense in some of us. in judeo belief god is
everything and everyone and a lot of people have no problem
in feeling merciful to the phenomena of his power and energy
it instills in some peoples life, because humans feel
they're imperfect and find guidance in his perfection.
without principles and values some lose perspective in life
and thats why they use religion specifically because thats
where those very same principles were derived from. so i
personally dont feel god is dead, and neither do i obsess
about the unknown. i just try to live my life the best way i
know how given what i've learned along the way (dont we all)

i'm not a very religous person and that is probably because
of the fact that i was raised in a house without much
religion. i think this could be why god was so important to
the world 2000 years ago and not today. 2000 years ago, the
state and the church were one. you went to church or you
burned at the stake. people were poor, suffering from
disease, starving. God was their only ticket out. Now you
only go to church out of choice. Nobody (in the US anyway)
can tell you what to believe or worship. most of us aren't
suffering. many of us don't need God anymore to give us
hope because we can fend for ourselves.

God might be dead in the mainstream. But God still exists
to the people who believe. I'm not one of those people.

consider myself to be a religious person i'm just stating
the point that god cannot be distinguished because human
beings are always in search for a greater sense of well
being.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it,
then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards
the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife
manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough,
finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to
china. Eats, shoots and leaves."

board? I think the name of XLT needs changing to
XLT-RELIGIOUS-DEBATES. You silly silly people. Nobody knows

i wonder, is that what people said about the "thing" before
god? were people like, hey this stuff is getting so old and
tired and there is so much of it around that it is garbage
now. that god might be dead, but there always will be a new
god that comes along and takes the torch from the old one.
and you will have yourself with a brand new god scene, with
a new bible. who knows if that hasent already happened yet?
can any one person say they were there when the torch was
passed? and what the fuck are we all talking about, god or
music.

I think that the topic of religion is perhaps the most
important topic in the world today, more so than even
politics (though of course, both are linked).

Religious beliefs originally came about to provide man with
a convenient means of explaining the inexplicable. As we
have learned more about the universe many of the things we
explained away with religion have now been explained not
through prayer, burning bushes, mountain-top revelations and
the like, but through scientific discovery.

Giving credence to religion is like giving credence to
astrology, clairvoyance and the healing power of crystals.
All utter tosh lacking any basis in reality.

I say that religion is the most important topic in the world
today because it's fundamentally holding mankind back. Look
at the state of the US with it's poisonous mix of religion
and right-wing politics, look at the rise of Islamic
fundamentalism. I say enough is enough. It's time we stopped
believing in things for which no evidence has ever been
produced and set about expanding our knowledge in the realm
of science, through which our efforts and our resources will
be inifinitely more beneficial to mankind.

Danbrusca, like I said before, 'If we don't know the
truth (because nobody can know) then how can one opinion be
more correct than another?'
. Whilst the Bible may be a
load of 'tosh' as you put it, it still carries strong morals
that would make the world a better place if were followed. I
can see things from your point of view very clearly but I
think that your opinion has narrowed your views quite
considerably, to the point where you think that you are
correct and nobody can prove you wrong. Religion is about
faith, and faith has no fact. If you chose to follow your
life by nothing then died to find that there was truth in
what you'd heard, then don't you think it was pointless not
following anything?

I agree with you on the level that religion has corrupted
the world, in that people choose to kill those who oppose,
but I can't remember the Bible saying, 'Kill thy neighbour'.
Of course everything that I have said can be argued with but
it is pointless arguing about it because nobody can tell me
that I am wrong, because, nobody knows the truth. That is
something that I have said many a time and will probably
believe it for the rest of my life.

I don't think I'm correct at all. On this issue I
know that I'm correct.

You say that my opinion has narrowed my views so much that I
don't think anybody can prove me wrong. I suggest that you
are the one with the narrow view, unable to see past years
of subtle indoctrination that religion has no basis in
reality. Have you thought about why I would think nobody can
prove me wrong? Is it perhaps because nobody can
prove me wrong? Can you offer any evidence as to the
scientific validity of any religion?

Faith is the ultimate cop-out of the religious. A convenient
way to excuse themselves from the burden of having to prove
anything. If I say to you that there are fairies living at
the bottom of my garden, but I have no evidence to prove it,
you just have to have faith that they are there, would you
believe that there were indeed fairies at the bottom of my
garden? How do you explain the huge diversity of religions
out there, all their adherents having faith that their
religion is the right religion. They can't all be right.
Which one is?

You tell me the truth cannot be known. The truth can of
course be known. We're stuck to the earth because of
gravity, the earth orbits the sun. These are facts,
indisputable truths. Religion has none of these.

As for the bible, yeah, sure it contains some good stuff.
but it also contains a lot of wank. There was a guy on the
radio last night who said he believed everything in the
bible, so he was asked if he advocated the stoning of
adulterers. He tried to evade answering this of course
because it didn't fit in with the house of cards that are
his religious beliefs. Christians have a knack of picking
out the bits from the bible that they find palatable and
conveniently ignoring the rest.

Why would you want me to have the same opinion as yourself?
Should I be a clone of you? Should I agree with everything
you say? Am I talking to the new god, danbrusca? I can't
answer your questions because I can't (I don't know the
answers). Call me crazy but I think there might be something
more to this Earth than science. I don't have beliefs to
answer questions about this Earth. They are personal to me
and I couldn't give a monkeys about what anybody has to say
about it. You may think I'm some kind of simple person who
thinks illogically, but if I agreed with you and lied then
how would I be any different?

After I have written this you will reply with some highly
intelligent string of sentances to prove me wrong or put me

shall we?

I'm no god, but I am mightily pissed off by religion. Once
upon a time we thought the universe revolved around a flat
earth, but we grew out of that nonsense. The time will come
when we mankind grows out of religion too, stops trying to
fill the gaps in it's knowledge with myths and actually
evolves.

My replies to you haven't been about putting you in your
place, I've been trying to liberate you.

I'm glad you didn't answer my questions, the very fact that
you couldn't says a lot. Religion cannot stand up to the
most basic attacks on it's logic.
