Ok, so I just finished reading the hitchhikers guide to the
galaxy, and I have a question.

*if you havent read it, you might want to stop reading? book
spoilers haha*

so. I didnt know that the book would end like it did...
telling me to read the sequel... ok, Ill read the next one,
this was entertaining... but I look online... and there is 5
books!

so my question is... are all of these books one long story,
and at the end, it will be explained... or is it all
unrelated?

thanks

does what get explained..?

the commonly used abbreviation for Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy is h2g2, btw.

Yeah, it's all one big story... there is a lot more of a
substantial ending in the 5th, although that's definitely
the worst of the series. You can tell he didn't really enjoy
writing it.

*btw: the movie version... think it will just include the
first book... and leave room for sequels.... or cover it
all?

i actually liked the fifth book for what it was, but most
people hate the last two. the second is the best.
the movie sounds pretty awful, but it'll probably be the
first and second books, least that makes the most sense to
me.

Read through the series just the once, enjoyed it mostly...
Dent learning to fly stood out for me.

i'm pretty sure the movie is just the first book.. i didn't
catch the last few "episodes" of it though..

it's pretty neat though, to see all the weird little
tangents of it in movie form.. like in the bit where it
talks about the babelfish proving/disproving the existence
of god, and god "disappearing in a poof of logic", or
whatever..
pure gold!

i think he's talking about the new movie thats coming out
with mos def as ford.
that old bbc tv series was awful. the books simply don't
work in visual form since most of the humor that comes
relies heavily on wording and descriptions.

I did not like the fifth book, particularly the fact that
they all die. Downer. BTW, the 2nd computer is the earth,
which was destroyed five minutes before the question to the
answer of Life, The Universe, And Everything.

that really is bullshit.

ofcourse the sets and creatures looked wonky, it was the BBC
in 1981, but the visuals for the book are still astounding
when you see them, even more so when you know they're
completely drawn and animated by hand.

Without a doubt, I was howling with laughter reading it. I
tried picking up the first book again just to get through
and read the third one again but I couldn't be arsed... I've
been re-reading the early Discworld novels recently and I've
decided Terry Pratchett is generally as unfunny as I
remember.

it really doesn't matter that much, nor is it much of a
surprise when you read it.

there are many more and much better surprises.

funny you'd call my opinion on something bullshit, but it
goes to show why i rarely ever post here. people are so
nice.
anyway, i own the tv series, everyone i've shown it to
agrees that its a poor adaptation.
it is what it is: a low budget, hokey adaptation with some
then state of the art special effects starkly contrasted
with horrendous special effects. douglas adams had basically
the same viewpoint on it, and i think most people do. hardly
"bullshit".
