I didn't mean electronic music.. I mean ANY music! I've
never met a girl that really likes music! They mostly
don't seem to care...

i didn't exactly start listening to electronic music on my
own. there wasn't much like this on the radio here but i
started listening to it when an friend of my brother played
some stuff for me.

the female brain is indeed different from the male brain so
there might not be as many female idm listeners but they can
still like music in general as much as men can.

i think there's a difference between
I-REALLY-FUCKING-LIKE-MUSIC-MORE-THAN-ANYTHING-liking and
just liking it. Some like it more than others. i like music
really much and most of my female friends like it less, but
they still like it.

that, and therefore say mny strange things.

I HAVE met a few that love musicians, though...

"I'd say that all of my girl friends over the years, were
enthusiastic, and loved music just as much as any of my guy

friends did.

And I think that all of the women at my school would beg to

differ as well.

Maybe they don't like music that is good enough for your
guys tastes, but don't you dare say they aren't feeling the

music they listen to. "

..I don't know any girls that listen to music on their own
initiative...

(this is only based on my own experiences, though... all the
girls I know.. if I ask "do you like [insert artist]," if
the answer isn't "no," it's 99% "yeah, they're/he's okay,"
and if I ask "so.. what do you listen to," it's 99% "oh..
just anything...")

That might not be the case, actually. Cause a lot of young
girls like the mainstream boy- and girlbands. And that's
highquality music of course (cause it sells a lot of
records).

exactly my point earlier.

who are you guys to judge what is worth music?

Maybe its shit to you, and maybe its shit on an academic
analysis level... but it doesnt mean people dont actually
like, and feel the music they are hearing.

smores taste good. simple: chocolate, cracker, marshmellow.
its no fine cuisine from a NYC resturaunt... but lots of
people, when they are smores, are truely enjoying the
taste.

get me?

yeah.. and then there are groups.. like goth girls that buy
lots of dark rock cds for "image" (believe me, I know a few
that actually admit to doing that).

also.. it is strange that out of all the people that replied
to this thread, only about three or four have different
experiences....

This is not a misogonystic (spelling?) conception, because
it just means they may be doing something else with their
time...

(I have to add that I also only know one girl that
really cares about movies.. all the others.. they'll watch a
movie, but when it is done.. "yeah, it was ok..." never
"great!!!" or "AWESOME!!")

I get you... I mean I've got a broad taste in music so I can
find things I like in different types of music.
But do you think as many people would listen to mainstream
pop if it wasn't played by the radio so much?

"This is not a misogonystic (spelling?) conception, because

it just means they may be doing something else with their

but you didnt say "most girls I know are too busy doing
other things, to listen to music"*

you said "I dont think girls feel music"*

*not direct quotes, because I am lazy.

Points: 14042 Status: Lurker | Followup to Key_Secret: #01287973

theres plllleeenty of guys who listen to mainstream music.
so the arguement is flawed.

people in general are lazy. they want things handed to them.
but just because its handed to you, doesnt mean that it
automatically isnt possible to enjoy.

DM: "any music..." yes?

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2004-07-27 15:52 [#01287978]
Points: 14042 Status: Lurker

*and Im not saying that there aren't people who listen to
music for image... there are. both guys and girls.

but to say that women can't feel music, is just a really
sexist thing to say. music conveys emotion. emotion is
human. women are human. women have emotions. women can feel
music.

offline Drunken Mastah from OPPERKLASSESVIN!!! (Norway) on 2004-07-27 15:53 [#01287979]
Points: 35867 Status: Lurker | Followup to Zeus: #01287974 | Show recordbag

yeah, 'cause.. to be able to "feel" music, you'd have to
actually listen to it... the girls I know have different
hobbies, and if you have a hobby, don't you spend boring
moments thinking about it? I know that if I am at a friends
house, and he loves football, and we're watching a game, I
spend 90% of the time thinking about how my next song is
going to be... sometimes I hear samples from the game, and
wish I'd had some recording device ready, but... yeah.. you
catch my drift? When I'm around women, and I listen to
music, it's like they're tuned into something else... no
matter what type of music it is...

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2004-07-27 15:53 [#01287980]

and I dont mean "can" in a 1 out of 100 kind of way.

Points: 14042 Status: Lurker | Followup to Drunken Mastah: #01287979

so wouldnt a better arguement be that "people who dont
listen to music, cannot feel music"

theres guys that dont listen to music, because they do other
things.

yeah.. those image peolpe piss me off! I don't know why I
care, but it does anyway...

re: any music: I meant.. you were talking about them not
liking the music I like being the same as not liking music,
but I'm talking about all sorts of music.. I have friends
that listen to different things from what I listen to, but
they too get the same answers when asking the questions I
mentioned earlier...

"When I'm around women, and I listen to

do you listen to every possible type of genre there is in
the world?

lots of people have specific tastes. maybe they just dont
like yours.

theres lots of music I hear, that I dont like, so I dont
even respond to it.

I was refering to all types of music as well.

I made comments specifically about certain types of music,
but I was also commenting on music in general... reread my
posts.

yeah, it would be a more correct statement, but I would also
say that the larger percentage of the people discussed are
women... all the guys I know have other things to do, but
still take the time to listen to and discuss music...
all the girls I know don't... a discussion about music with
a girl mostly doesn't extend to more than two sentences...
the two sentences from before... only in norwegian...

I dont know what to tell you.

try talking to different women.

not every guy you come across likes football.

not every girl you come across hates music.

you just cant say what is possible for someone to like or
understand based on sex.

"theres plllleeenty of guys who listen to mainstream

"

Zeus, this is what I wrote:

"But do you think as many people would listen to
mainstream pop if it wasn't played by the radio so much?"

the word 'people' does not imply people of a certain sex.

Also, I didn't get this:

"but just because its handed to you, doesnt mean that it
automatically isnt possible to enjoy."

sorry. I read it wrong.

so... it wouldnt be mainstream pop, if it wasnt on the
radio... now would it?

just because its handed to you remark...
just because its on the radio, and because its mainstream,
doesnt mean that people cannot enjoy the music. that the
music doesnt have feelings.

he's not saying that all girls don't feel music. just that
there are much fewer girls than boys who feel it the way he
describes.

the thing with mainstream is that it's more accessable and
often regarded as being "cool". a girl who is 15 years old
(no, not all girls) thinks about what is cool and what isn't
so she buys that mainstream music...and she might even like
it.

when i'm in the car with my friends i rarely play music that
i really love or things that i'm really into because it's
most often something that most of them don't like... so i
play something that i like and something that might suit
their style more. not necessarily something i'm thrilled
about but something they might feel as well.

Women like slow beats while men like fast and more
complicated beats.... there was some study that was done...
I only read the abstract since I could not download the
journal......

Be aware that most people listen music for the image.

Electronic music implies pushing of the button. There is no
sperm involved. word electronic implies men with balls cut
off.

I can't wait for the moment when computers will start making
their own music from skratch (without samples or anything).
Pop music will become science of seduction. Then, and ony
then women will like electronic music.

I know some girls who are really into rockish stuff, they
really get into it and realy listen to it, and a lot of the
girls I know are big dnb heads.

....but they all got "gotten into it" by my male friends and
their boyfriends and stuff (I think?) but regardless most of
us guys got into it from other people too.

But yeah I know a lot of girls who treat music as a fashion
accessory. "I'm a punk girl" or "I love UK garage" and you
have to pronounce it "garridge" or you're not cool, or
trance girls... I dunno.

nope

Your absolutley right

well in my case anyway

I can never be botherd to actully put any reseach in the
music I like, I just wait till someone tells me.

And one of the reasons I hardly ever talk about music here
is cause I don;t know enough about it to comment

I just listen and enjoy =o)

Another reason is that I'm not very good at putting my
opinions across in text

I think women do "feel" music (what a shit phrase), but all
the female friends i know dont analyse it the way me and a
couple of mates do. The closest they get to something like
that is "the beat's really good". They never say, well
that's a clever use of 'xyz technique', whether its
performance, production or compositional.

My mum and sister simply like music that they can sing along
too.

However, having said that my old music teacher was into
music big time - when we listened to some stockhausen
("Stimmung") she listened to it loads and loads, and really
got into the way Stockhausen was working.

So this is definately not a biological difference, more of a
social difference - all down to bloody socialisation *rolls
eyes*
