In a nutshell, what do people dislike about IE? It's always
been fast and flawless for me. I use Opera most of the time,
mostly because I really love the multiple window tab thingy,
but invariably, it doesn't work as well as IE. And of course
there's some mutated websites.

I can't be bothered to click those links.

Is this about the fact that the security flaw in Mozilla is
also in IE?

IE is a shitter concerning security.. it's riddled with
holes..

the security issues are disconcerting.

but, what really bothers me about IE is it's horrid support
for web standards. it really makes designing web pages a
pain in the ass. and it's non-support for transparent PNGs
pisses me off badly because they are so cool.

I'd use Opera more if it only supported GMail.

Currently using Avant Browser, which basically uses the core
of IE but adds tabbed browsing, popup killing, more security
settings etc.

i have no problems. i use win98, ie, and hotmail.

i have no gripe with any of them. i think people are just
trying to do too much with what they have.

CoolWebSearch... *pukes*

Here's another vomit-inducer... CASINO PALAZZO , do a Google
for that one if you're curious :P

This comes in the midst of me trying to use Firefox, and it
ain't easy 'cuz IE still has like 94% of the market and is
the only browser that can view some pages "properly". Ugh.

These spyware makers should have their computer privileges
taken away :(

I've been using Firefox (and firebird previuosly) for ages
now. much faster at rendering pages and at least you know if
it works in that browser then 99% of the time it will work
in any other.

there's really very little that i like about IE more than
it's moz counterparts. sometimes it can be nice that it
starts up faster, but that's because 90% of IE is loaded
when you boot... and, i'd almost always prefer my machine
boot quicker. and when websites don't support anything
other than IE i usually just blame the developer for having
his head up his ass and the business loses my patronage.

What a stupid subject.

IE is/was too tightly integrated with Windows but you can't
blame Microsoft for people maliciously using what would
otherwise be worthwhile additions. Many so called 'security
flaws' are just malicious use of facilities. Also a lot
more security falws are found in IE because it is so
violently targeted...I am sure if everybody switched to
attacking Firefox a lot more security problems there would
become apparent. IE is an excellent peice of software.

teion - The logic in your post is totally stupid.

kworter - Microsoft Word is brilliant and easily the
best word processor on the market.

I understand all the stuff about not conforming to all web
standards put forward by W3C, but at the end of the day 94%
of people use IE, so therefore IE is the standard. The
remainder who don't are mostly geeks who aren't worth
worrying about, because if they really need to they can
easily access to IE.

i politely disagree.

yes, i'm sure as mozilla gains popularity, and more
attention is focused in it's direction there will be
additional security issues that pop up. but, i also think
IE has several serious security flaws because of it's
integration with a flawed OS, that mozilla will never have.

for years microsoft has focused on putting ease of use
before security. that is a compromise that is, and has been
biting them in the ass for quite a while, and now with xpsp2
they seem to finally be addressing it... however, even in a
best case scenario IE is a 3 or 4 year old piece of
technology. that's a fuckload of a long time when you're
talking about the internet.

IE was definately a good browser back when it
defeated netscape in the browser wars... but, ever since
then microsoft hasn't put much effort into evolving it's web
brower, thus it hasn't changed much at all since '99.

and IE purposefully avoids adhereing to web standards...
which i think sucks sweaty scrotum.

but, yeah, ms office definately beats open office if you're
doing a lot of work with it. however, i don't use it enough
at home to justify the infinately higher price, and OO more
than meets my need.

But the ease of use is what allowed the web and computer use
in general to develop the way it did. You also can't blame
Microsoft for wanting to retain its dominance in the market.
They are a major company not a charity.

yep. they have certain business strategies that have worked
stupendously well for them so far. i just don't like that
they're not using their dominate possition to push the web
farther.. instead they are holding it back and stiffeling it
by not even fully adopting 6 year old standards (CSS). very
frustrating.

i'd like to see a little competition in the market. i think
it'd be good for everyone involved.

I honestly think it is because Microsoft beleive the web, as
it stands now, is outdated and not much room for development
which is why they are focusing all their efforts of Web
Services and the .NET framework.

i think it's because they already have 95% of the market..
there's not really any motivation to spend money
innovating.

i think they're putting a schload of effort into longhorn,
which will be massively web service/.NET based.

i'm fairly excited to see what they'll do with it.

web based or are you working on applications?

i'd like to leave asp classic and start working in
asp.net/c#... but our faggy company is still using NT4
servers!!!

"wtf are they thinking" i hear you asking.. "nothing." i
reply.

C# doing Windows Forms front end for network services. I've
done some Web Services stuff of my own, but none is live on
the net.
