i finally decided to defenstrate (i.e.ditch windows). i got mandrake linux 10 up and running, finally. getting KDE to work was a bit of a bitch, since i had to manually install the driver for my particular display adapter.. anyways, internet, sound, graphics, are all working at the moment. screenshots forthcoming. anyone here on *nix?

yessir, i'm convinced OSX tiger is the best OS ever. i just can't afford to switch platforms altogether at the moment.

i use debian on my server - running x windows aswell unfortunatly, to irc/slsk/email from which is tough on a 233mhz piece of dirt.
i vnc to it from a xp pro laptop - i hated the thought of xp and the minute i got the laptop tried to install 2k over it but failed because it didn';t like the hardware, so i'm stuck with this, but after customisation it's turned out nicely and quite bearable.
don't like mandrake. used it a while ago. RPM is truly awful, slackware is certainly better than redhat/mandrake .. but debian tops the lot :D

i heard as much.. but opted for mandrake for ease of installation. i tried installing debian ages ago and it was a nightmare. i'll probably move up to sslackware or debian sometime after i feel comfortable enough.

exactly that;s the way to do it. the only thing about that nowadays is that mandrake and redhat have so much sugar coating that you don't see the goings-on... there are so many administrative tools at your disposal which hide the plaintext files you can edit quicker and easily once you learn how..
if i knew what it meant i think i might say "it's a moot point" here. but i don't so i won't.

The fancy administrative tools are usually broken beyond repair in red hat. Mandrake's icing seems to at least work. But yeah, it's always fastest to just edit the damn text files. You're using Linux, you're a Klingon! Rargh!

i'm a linux nerd. don't use windows at all anymore, just osx on my laptop + debian on my servers/desktop.
i live and breathe linux. i mean, it's my bloody 21st birthday today and i'm flying to perth in a few hours to WORK on some linux wireless installs. i rock.
