..so I went to the Pixies reunion-gig last night, at the
Heineken Music Hallen, which comes pretty close to a stadium
- a huge, ugly place with pretty awful acoustics. it wasn't
sold out but there still were a HUGE amount of people there
- also funny to see how varied the crowd is - which is to be
expected with a band that started in the late eighties,
ofcourse.

I sat at the back, on the balcony, so the band looked about
8 cm high to me, but that didn't matter much because the
sound was FUCKING EARBLEEDINGLY LOUD. this has truly
been the LOUDEST concert I have ever been to.
it was either Joey Santiago's screeching guitar solos or
Frank Blacks screeching voice that made my brain fuckin
bleed out of my ears..

they simply came on stage, started playing and didn't stop
till about 75 minutes later. Kim Deal said 1 thing: "Thanks"
and that was it. and when I say they started playing and
didn't stop, I meant that literally. there was about 6
seconds at the utmost between each song.

and now, for your utter navelgazing enjoyment, I shall
present the songs that were played, although not in the
right order, because I can't remember due to my brains
getting sonically fried..

Caribou
Isla De Encanta
The Holiday Song
Nimrod's Son
album: "Surfer Rosa"
Bone Machine
Something Against You
Broken Face
Gigantic
River Euphrates
Where is My Mind
Cactus
Vamos
Debaser
Tame
Wave Of Mutilation
I Bleed
Here Comes Your Man
Dead
Monkey Gone To Heaven
Crackity Jones
Number 13 Baby
Hey
Gouge Away
Velouria
Is She Weird
U-Mass
In Heaven (sung by Kim Deal..)

they started with "gouge away" and ended in the encore with
"gigantic".

during "vamos" Santiago started doing his guitar-fuckery
which he normally does during that song and used some kind
of gapper-effect, which went on automatically. he then took
off his guitar, with that effect still going, placed it in
the guitarstand and just kind of watched it. then the
drummer, Lovering, threw him one of his drumsticks,
with which Santiago started to "play" the guitar, Lovering
playing on with just one stick. after a while Santiago
decided it had been enough and threw the stick back to
Lovering, who caught it out of mid-air and immediately
went on playing, the crowd at that point going ape-shit
(again).

another fine moment was during "river euphrates", when Black
came to the line "one sip from that salty wine" which
he suddenly SCREAMED at the top
of his lungs - it fucking ripped my already dying ears to
complete buggery AND scared the SHIT out of me. :)

all in all it was a great concert! :D

nice :)

people who attended their gig here were very pleased as
well, their only complaint was that they were kind of too
static on the stage...ahh, weird people...

I saw pixies about three weeks ago.
They were great! If you didn't read my report on it; it was
the same typ of concert as the one you attended - with very
short pauses between the tracks. One of my fav moments was
when they played "Where is my mind".
They're still great live.

That sounds like it was awesome. And yes, I managed to scare
princo away from the cake with a zombie mask and a scary
noise! It's nice, but it does seem to be made out of wood
(sorry).

Some people say.........The Pixies are ímportant´because
Kurt said they influenced them alot. Can you see that a
bit?

the pixies influenced a shitload of bands that came after
them, not just Nirvana.

I do think they are pretty influential, much like Slint were
for that kind of post-rock thing.

David Bowie (and quite a lot of other people) believes the
Pixies to be the first that brought the soft verse/loud
chorus-structure to popmusic.

Yo, i love the pixies!!!!
I saw them last night, but i had to pay £40 for the
pleasure.
It was at T in The Park (super gay festival up here in
scotland for "trendies and neds". The day before they had
Pink and the Darkness headlining!! bleurgh!!)

The gig was almost ruined by a fat paramedic guy who kept
standing in front of my girlfriend who is like 5ft or
something.
We almost had to leave our place at the front we waited ages
on until i eventually told him to "fuck right off".

However, once this was amended, they fuckin rocked.
It was like on big amazing greatest hits set, with a whole
bunch of amazing songs. And they were tight as fuck
together, too.
Franks got real plump too, i noticed.

i seen the pixies at t in the park as well.
they were amazing!
franks vocals were top notch, he can still scream like
hell!
every single song they played was an anthem.
opened with planet of sound, then went full out from then.
frank may be fat but it suits him
