Why isn't it in the "mainstream"?
I could add "as of yet" to the end of my question but I have
already thought out some answers.. or at least one big one:
It would take over the world as we know it. Or would it...
mwoo ha haaaa. I just think the concept of VR has been
around wayyyy too long for it to be either somehow
restricted by the Gov't. or just not mass produced at all.
Anyways.. I think the movie The Lawnmower Man answered that
question for me as well, even thought it *was* a little over
the top. The questions and thoughts I can think of are:

1. Why is it just being used mostly for Military training (I
think)... software is too expensive to write / sell? Not to
mention REAL hardware. Which spawns the next question.

2. With the tech of today, where are the REAL VR Head Units
(Not these "OOH WOW A 52-inch Monitor appears six feet in
front of me" contraptions)?

3. Yes, there would be a ton of people puking and convulting
(sp) left and right because of the motion sickness, at least
with the head units. Well, go figure.

4. Personally, I would rather be in one of those mockup
cockpits or similar while being under the influence of said
VR. Just as long as it's some high-tech-state-of-the-art
wraparound 180 degree display. Oh yeah.. and a killer sound
system and controls.

5. That movie Strange Days. There's another form. Much more
dangerous though, and again.. a little over the top.

6. That episode of Star Trek Next Gen where they get stoned
from messin' around too much with that VR Game (funny if you
ask me).

7. Some might just make it their own reality, eventually.

C'mon tell me I have some good views here... talk amongst
yourselves. Hell, make it a debate if you like.

maybe no-ones come up with a convincing VR experience using
vision alone..........untill they come up with full-body
tactile feed-back, it's just an x-box strapped to your
head........

Man, I haven't logged into this message board for a while,
but I just have to say that "untill they come up with
full-body
tactile feed-back, it's just an x-box strapped to your
head........" is funny. :O

Yeah, I forgot one other famous movie scene with VR while
thinking of that "tactile feedback"... The interactive sex
scene in Timecop where the dude's doin his PC @ work. That's
funny too. So there's another addition to mah list: MAKING
ELECTRONIC BABIES!!!! I'd bet they look like the kids in
the Come to Daddy video. Whaddya think?
