whats so good about it?

offline ChildrenTalking from United States on 2004-07-02 13:23 [#01263751]

if i was to express what i imagine when i listen to this
song people would think i'm a freak. so i wont bother
putting myself out for potshots. dont u use ur imagination
when listening to elec. music? i sure do. especially when i
listen to autechre it intensifies the experience. i have to
be careful sometimes because i can be driving and sometimes
i do that and start to like zone out.

it. bloody gobshite.

the topic isnt about me. i was wondering if people enjoyed
this track as much as i do. i know you like it cause you
seem offended if i dont express my imagination! hmm ok if
you insist. i dont know it goes by so quickly but i imagine
a god like mechanical serpant thrashing and destroying
things, while shooting plasma lasers and just causing total
destruction to human civilization? i'm Ron Burgundy?

Steinbolt is the worst track on ultravisitor by a country
mile.

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2004-07-02 13:43 [#01263786]

is a country mile bigger or smaller than a normal mile? i
know a country pint is smaller than a normal pint because
they can never be arsed to top the fucker up

offline ChildrenTalking from United States on 2004-07-02 13:46 [#01263792]

have u ever tried asking them to fill it to the rim at gun
point? maybe that'll work

Y'know i have no idea. It just sounds good. Country pints
are usually flat and watery, so maybe the miles are too.

i'm with you on this one
brutal track, you can really feel it kicking.
and when the ambience starts up in the background...its like
the soundtrack for some inter-galatic war

About the name, steinbolt, I belive it's norwegian. Meaning
something like rock pin in english. I think he maybe was
inspired by very dark, black metal, which Norway is famous
for. I love that track!

my dads from norway and he says a steinbolt is some kind of
a peg you put in a rock. and the track fuckin rocks my ass
of each time i listen to it, the mix could be louder
compared to the rest of the cd tho, i always have to turn it
up

Excellent song. He uses the 303 like a god damn guitar.
Man can he make that thing sing.

offline isnieZot from pooptown (Belgium) on 2004-07-03 01:51 [#01264194]
Points: 4949 Status: Lurker

hmmm I don't really like it. I know some idiots here say
that if vsnares had talent he would make steinbolt. but
that's bullshit. 90% of the snares tracks kick the crap out
of steinbolt imo. it is mastered or mixed so badly. the
synth line pushes the beats away at 5 min. I wish he
woulden't have tryed to get that live sort of sound in this
album. steinbolt could be so much more if the sound was a
bit better.

offline thecrimsonguard from ∞ (United States) on 2004-07-03 10:36 [#01264620]

This is Squarepushers attempted to make a track that sounds
like a vsnares track. He can't pull it off. I agree with
isnieZot.

imo.

and by the way... I dont agree with the vsnares comparison
either even though I like steinbolt a lot

i'd have to hear more vsnares because from what i've heard
so far its nothing like it, and no one has mention any songs
from vsnares to compare to steinbolt.

i don't see whats so vsnares in steinbolt, or else tom has
been doin' snares-like tracks since his debut

i really like it, dont think it's badly produced, listen and
try to imagine what benefit the overcompression gives to the
track,

i personaly think it's used very well, like an instrument in
itself, and it's like that troughout the album, there is a
real sense of control and playing with the dynamic range.

yeah damn right, at least this isnt the sort of track you
have to play 100 times before you 'like it', it kicks ass
instantly

all the vsnares crap you have to listen to over and over
again until you 'get it' - the only thing that happens is
your brain adjusting to nonsense 200 bpm cutups and
softsynths bleeping all over the place

this is an excellent track, takes it time to build up
though. 6:09, what a sheer brilliance.

haven't listened much to vsnares but what i've heard sucked
really much. maybe i just haven't been listening to the
right stuff.

The track is great, but like quite a few of the tracks on
Ultravisitor the "live" production feel pisses me off. It
could be clearer.

Still, it's great.

The funny thing about this track as well as most of
Ultravisitor is that it entertains me, but I can't listen to
it all the time. I have to be willing to sit down and have
an Ultravisitor Session.
I usually listen to it when drinking in mah room.
