[drugs] Marijuana storage?

offline andrew childers on 2004-06-29 20:05 [#01260667]
Points: Status:

A friend of mine just bought a whole bunch of lush
marijuana buds. He doesn't smoke that often and he's
wondering the best way to store it as it will probably take
him several months to consume it all.

Seems like just leaving it in the baggies would make it dry
out or something? Should it be kept in glass jars maybe? I
don't know, help.

I had this dream when I was a kid that i flew up to space
and was able to breathe by having a really long tube that
was hanging down into earth's atmosphere hehah..

So umm.. someone give me some guidance on airtight storage
please.. I'm sure theres some sort of thing that people do,
but I'm jusdt not tapped into that culture enough to be
familliar with their methods.

Bloddy hell he's not got a barn full of the stuff.. I don't
think he needs to worry about rodents nesting in it.

innit

we've always used spice jars. of course we smoke our weed
rather quickly and usually don't have to worry about it
drying out.

otherwise try to keep it airtight as possible in those
sealable bags. it doesnt dry off that quickly but even if it
does its easier to smoke anyway

I often keep marijuana in a spice jar and it lasts
suprisingly well - I've even got one bud over 2 years old
and it's still smokable - A little harsh maybe, but not as
bad as you'd expect.

If you keep it in one of those air tight glass jars, with
the big rubber lid thing, it can improve over time.

Usually when you buy marijuana it's not been dryed or cured
properly cos they don't have 3 or 4 weeks to do it properly
- Means you have to store more at a time I guess - So higher
risk, lower turn over.

I've had it kept airtight for a month before, only to come
out smelling and tasteing better than it went in.

I keep my weed in the plastic container from a middle of a
kinder easteregg in the fridge when I'm not using it, a lot
of the time.

Nice and crisp :P

put it in 2 layers of ziplock baggies with the air pressed
out and put it in the fridge.

if you don't put it in cold storage, there is a chance it
could mold.
it's sad, but i've had it happen.

I keep smaller amounts in 50ml Corning Centrifuge tubes.
but i work in a lab where they are abundant.

One day I'm planning on storing a big wad of bud in a bottle
of vodka for 6 - 12 months, depending on how long I can wait

for long term storage, freezer.............

if it dries out, just put it in a bag with a small piece of
orange peel (or lemon, or abit of apple etc. etc.) and it
will rehydrate to it's original condition......

yeh yeh but be careful as too much moisture could again lead
to mold.

and there ain't nothing sadder than an eighth of moldy
weed.

:(

Y'know what's worse? People who feel the need to 'cure'
homegrown, or worse again, people who grind dutch bud to
powder prior to selling it (this is very prevalent round my
neckothewoods)

no i had a few of them eighths and the last one got moldy.

state flower.

its a good story actually:
several years ago there was a good sized earthquake here in
seattle. My friend's landlord had to check out one of his
properties for damages. when he got inside the place, he
found the the tennent had a major grow-op set up. To avoid
being responsible and possibly ending up in jail and loosing
the house, he was forced to call the police, but before
making the call he gathered up a couple pounds of the stuff
and rushed it over to my friend's house.

anywho, my friend had too much weed for one man and decided
to donate a bunch to me. I of course was happy to find
homes for the poor rattled buds.

glass container in the freezer is your best bet for longer
term storage, and use the smallest container that will work.

i haven't read the whole thread though, so maybe you already
know that.

well if theres alot of moisture in them to begin with you'll
need to defrost, if not they'll be ok.

offline plaidzebra from so long, xlt on 2004-06-30 08:35 [#01261036]

do *not* freeze it if it's not dried yet. a properly sealed
jar will not "freezer burn" the material. if you freeze
when it's dry but not brittle, when you remove it from the
jar and it warms up to room temperature it will be in the
same state as when you froze it.

If it's dry and you only want to keep it for a few months,
anything with a good airtight seal will work fine. The worst
that could happen is it gets quite harsh to smoke. If you
want you can divide it up just to keep from letting air in
when you take some out, and don't grind it until you use it
to reduce the surface area.

hurry you've to smoke it all at once otherwise it's wasted,
no I'm kiddin I'm still smoking pot that I've harvested in
september last year and it's still ok, if you really want to
store it for over a year it's best stored in the fridge
